Ok here are the problems:
Random reboots, but not very frequent (maybe 1x week?)
This morning I tried to bring it back from Standby, but it wouldn't. I turned it off at the PSU and turned it back on. When I tried to turn it on at the power button, the lights on the case would flicker for a second, but then nothing.
After leaving it alone for several hours, I tried to power it up again. Everything came on but there was no post screen. The post code on my motherboard (Abit AB9) said "Complete uGuru initial process AWARD BIOS take over booting job"
I reset the CMOS using the jumper, and it's fine for the moment.
Other info:
E6400
Abit AB9
Antec NEO HE 550W
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320Gb
2x1024 DDR2-533 Kingston Value RAM
Asus X1950 pro
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (yes I know it's old, had to get it from the old comp after failing to get onboard sound working)
Not OC'd
This system probably spends about 90% of the time on Standby. I use it for an average of 2 hours a day. I don't play graphics-intensive games, or use CPU intensive programs. I'm running XP. uGuru is not finding any problems with temps, etc. Last virus check (~4 days ago) came up clean - I use both Trend Micro's and Bitdefender's free online programs. I have my own security program (CA free from Yahoo), but don't trust the scanning.
Connected peripherals at time of problems: keyboard, mouse, 5.1 sound system, printer.
Nothing inside my case looks or smells fried.
My cat tries to spend time behind my case, but I discourage it, and the room is closed to him when I'm not home.
I've had to do system restore also this week when a Windows update caused Windows not to boot up. *gr*
I have a buggy game installed, but I've never heard of a game causing this sort of havoc.
Ok, that's everything that might be pertinent, and probably several things that aren't. If you could help me prevent my computer's death at a young age (6mo), I'd really appreciate it.
