Hi there everyone,

I bought Diablo2 and now I'm having some problems ... I hope you can help me ... 🙂

I installed Diablo2 Full (1.5Gb), and started it ... it gave me a nice introduction, but after that, it just gave me a trashed screen ... I thought ... maybe it's a video card problem (drivers related). I downloaded the lattest from creative, and installed them ... I entered the game, and the screen went fine 🙂

Then, I played for a couple of minutes, and tried to exit ... a BLUE SCREEN (arghhhh) appeared from apparently nowhere, but with the help of ENTER I exited the game with "success". But the problem still persisted ... last night, I couldn't even start the game, with blue screens appearing everytime I tried to load it.

I thought ... let's upgrade the directx ... and installed directx8.0 ... the problem still persists ... when I try to diagnose Direct Draw through directx (c:\program files\directx\setup\dxdiag), it gives me either blue screens or crashes computer ... I don't kn ow if it's a problem with the game, the directx or whatever ...

My system:
PIII600EB Coopermine
ASUS P3V4X
128Mb RAM PC133
Sound Blaster 1024
CD-ROM Philips 36x
Creative Riva TNT2 M64 32Mb
Windows Me

I just need help! Thank you.

Diablo 2 works fine with a TNT2 under Win98SE, don't know about WinME.

My very uneducated guess is that there is something basically trashed in your system-directX or whatever-that is causing this problem. Do other games work ok?

Two final thoughts/guesses: (1) I assume that you have patched Diablo 2 to the latest version (1.06b)-if you're playing on battlenet realms then you have the latest version or (2) run Diablo2's videotest-it should give you an option between 2D & 3D versions, switch to the 2D version to see if that helps (there is very little difference visually between the two).

You can also change your graphic settings within the game, for what that's worth. Good luck.

EDIT: thought of one more thing-the movies are in 800 resolution while the game is in 640. Does your monitor (or video card) have problems switching resolutions? (I'm really reaching for straws here).

Hi, thanks for answering,

Other games work just fine, I installed it on two TNT2 M64 video based systems, and in both I had the same problem (one has directx7 and other with directx8).

I patched diablo2 (through battlenet), and the problem persists with 2D or 3D modes.

My next try will be to install directx80a (I don't know if it's the current installed version), and the new Detonator3 drivers from NVIDIA, since the drivers installed are from the board manufacturer (creative).

Think this will solve my problem? Any more ideas?

Thanks for your atention.

OH. same happened with me kinda. but luckily i made a second computer and nothing bad really happened except the screen started snowing. all i did to fix this was re-install the video card drivers (geforce 2 mx) and ran a vid test that Diablo2 had in its file and selected the one they recommended. It was wierd because when i ran it a couple of times, it gave me some new choice and that happened to make Diablo2 run nicely without its "snow."

As for my first comp. I'm assuming its the same problem. I have a matrox g450 in it and after a little while of playin' it on the comp it gave me the blue screen as well. I'm pretty sure its my video card but i just uninstalled it cause i alerady had it on my other comp. But i just suggest to re-install ur video drivers and run the video test Diablo gives u. And if that doesnt work Thump553 had great ideas. And if that doesnt work, go make a new comp just for gaming and use the geforce 2 mx 🙂 (i got it for 55 at NewEgg)

GOOD LUCK~

Got to admit that I'm stumped. I doubt very greatly that a different version of DirectX will matter. When D2 came out it came with DirectX 7 I believe. I know I ran it under versions of DirectX earlier than 8 on several computers.

My main system has a Radeon card. I no longer have the TNT system running D2-but I'm sure that there are thousands of systems configured like yours that do run it successfully.

Maybe someone at the forums at lurkerlounge.com or bnet can help you. I'd like to know what the solution is when you figure it out.
