Diablo2 and Win ME...does it work?

I can't get Diablo to work in win me. It works fine in 98se, why doesn't it work in ME? When I start up in ME, I can choose my character, but when I get to the loading... screen, I hear a windows beep, and then nothing. I still see my HD light blinking and CD light too. I added "- w" on the shortcut to run in a window, and found out that the beep (or ding, whatever), was "can't extract sprite". Blizzard's site says if you get that message to copy the file "d2sprite.mpq" (or something similar) manually from the cd, did that no luck. Any ideas?
 
I don't know how much help I can be here, but my friend just installed WinME recently and it does work with Diablo II. He did, however, have to download some new drivers for his video card before it would work. All I can suggest is make sure you've got the newest drivers.
