Plus, buying controllers is an infrastructural investment that will likely pay dividends beyond D3 multiplayer. You have kids and obviously you're interested in playing video games with them, so extra controllers are probably a good investment in the long run beyond D3.

Also, you don't have to pay $60 for XB1 controllers. Set a deal alert on Slickdeals for "Xbox One Controller." There was a recent deal for used $30 XB1 controllers and another one for new $45 controllers. I bought 2 used ones back in the day for $25 each after shipping and taxes, so if you're patient enough they can be had for pretty cheap.

I should probably mention the kids got a Wii U for Xmas and we have 4 controllers from the Wii that we use with the Wii U so we spend most of our multiplayer gaming on that.

But, I do like the idea of setting a deal alert. It would be great to get the kids interested in a less-Nintendo vibe of game. Not that I don't still find MK8 tons of fun.
