Diablo II won?t install on my new machine

For some reason it just won?t install at all. The NEC-3500 just ramps up and freezes. Nothing in safe mode either. No conflicts. Do I need to configure something or add a patch?

New XP Pro machine has new K8NGM2 mb, 1 gig value RAM, 3200+ cpu, Seagate SATA ST3250823AS and a LeadTek GeForce 6600GT. It also has an old Zip Drive and Floppy. Thanks

I really want to keep a single OS cause it?s simpler. I just can?t figure out why I can play Prince or Persia, Total Annihilation and Hexon with no problem at all.

what's an NEC-3500, if you don't mind explaining? I've had no issues installing D2 on my computer (XP Pro)
