Diablo II -- Not really hard drive thrashing, just sound stutterings/2 second lockups

On a K6-2 450 with 128MB of Ram in WinME, every once in a while Diablo II stutters and loops the sound for about 2 seconds and then plays normally for a while.

It happens in towns talking to people, it happens while just walking around.. but it seems to happen once every minute or so.

And the strange thing is, it's not every game. It happened yesterday but as my girlfriend was further in the game a few days ago, it never happens.

Might it be the buffer size on the CDRom? If you've ever ran Quake2 off the CD on a not so fast computer it seemed to have this problem as well.. 32x CDrom, I would hope it could pull the music off fast enough and not stutter the system. Thanks

I got those too. I copied three files from the CD-ROM to the hard drive. I know for sure all you need is the d2music.mpq file or something like that. I also used the crack so you don't have to use the CD. This fixed this problem for me. My CD-ROM has a huge buffer. I think that's what gave me the problems.

I just read somewhere that someone had the same problem because they sample their mouse rate too high. I used PS2Rate to make it 80 or 100.. so I'll see if that helps. If not, move over 300 megs.. music file is coming to town :)

I wish that program worked for me. My compaq sets ps/2 rate to 40 Hz. I want 100 Hz at least.

Yeah, my Diablo II takes up 1.7 gigs now.
