On my 21 inch monitor it is kinda annoying..
Is the default like 640x480?

Anyone running higher res?

why?
That is my only complaint dammit.
I hate not being able to play at higher res.
I would rather be pissed about not having a GTS...
Now there is no reason for me to buy a GTS....

The Art was all done in 640x480, and Blizzard didn`t feel like doing it again? That`s the only reason I can think of.

Blizzard said that an higher resolution would give some users an unfair advantage, but IMHO that`s just an typical marketing excuse.

Yup it is stuck at 640x480. IMO it is because the game takes up so much ram. If the resolution is up even more, the game gonna lag like hell.

I already lags like hell!!! Plus it takes 2hours just to get into a battle.net game where you risk getting disconnected from the server at any point. I am very disappointed so far. :(

So far, I'm sort of disappointed with Diablo II. Don't get me wrong, it is a good game, but considering that it makes use of two year old technology and runs sluggishly on even the fastest machines, it seems to me like the game was plain poorly written.

A lot of these RAM problems could have been solved by loading the maps on a scene by scene basis like its predecessor. Instead, it pretty much loads the ENTIRE map for the area. Sort of ridiculous for a game that only makes use of 8-bit color on an isometric 2D engine.

You can try running it in a window. Just right click on the desktop shortcut then properties. add a -w at the end of the target to run it in a window, looks better, but too small for me to see on my 17" monitor.

Diablo II runs smooth on my machine about 95% of the time...

I think the dazzling effects makes up for the resolution issue....I was totally blown away when I first saw Blizzard in action. :)

Yea, that kinda sucks that its limited.. Raising the rez would only make it look better, of course it would run slower.. but blah..

Anyway, perhaps someone will come out with a little utility.
C&C TS is limited too 800x600x16bit but with a little program I have, you can go as high as 1152x864, I think, maybe 1600x1200.

Yeah, that sinks about the resolution. By the way Daz, you don't have to have a program to adjust the CC:TS resolution. Just change/add a line or two in the SUN.INI file.
Example:

[Video]
ScreenWidth=1600
ScreenHeight=1200
StretchMovies=no

(I don't like to stretch the movies because the quality declines too much.)

I am also not to happy with the resolution thing but other than that I love it. I have not had any problems with B.net yet. Though I have only played on Realm B.net twice. The game flys on my system. It never slows down. Though for some reason when playing with my Uncle over a 100mbps network every 10 minutes or so I just lock up and have to wait about 30 seconds and then I start flying around really fast for the next few seconds to catch up. It even ran well when for some reason my system thought it only had 48MB of memory. I wondered why it did not reccommend 3D mode.

Mwink, go over to blizzard.com on one of their battle.net tech support forums and they have an explanation for why you get that freeze about every 10 minutes. I can't remember the solution...I wasn't looking for it - i just remember seeing it.

Maybe it will help.

my k6-2 400 with 128mb of ram runs at around 30-40 fps at all times. type fps in the chat box to see ping and fps.
