Diablo II Demo

apoppin

Lifer
I just noticed Diablo II was released as a demo.

I am brand new to this type of game.

Has anyone played the demo? I am hesitant to download 125 MB on my slow 56K connection.

Is it a good introduction to Diablo II? What is the "learning curve" like for this game?

apoppin,

I played Diablo Uno and they didn't change much for the sequel. There's hardly any learning curve whatsoever -- it's really "click and kill" (although I hard the sequel doesn't have as much repetitive clicking as D1).

Fun game if it's your first experience with an action "rpg". If you can get over the low 640x480 resolution/blurry visuals you'll likely be impressed.

Thanks. It's downloading now. With luck I might have it before work tomorrow.

Most of my games are FPS.

i think the amount of time it takes u to download will be greater than the actual gameplay time. its only one character, probably the barb, and only certain parts of act 1. really not worth it if u ask me.

jelly, u obviously havnt played much. u are missing out all that fun we been having whacking those necroes and leaping over those multishots... or how about predincting where a sorc would teleport? diablo2 in fact isnt just click and kill, needs tons of anticipation and timing, reflexes etc, much more so than 3d shooters. u naysayers just beat diablo once in normal and say its all boring and stuff... thats aint where the game is at! high lvl duels are SOO FUN

btw, is there 'dueling' in everquest? i would like to try it out if it does... otherwise i wouldnt bother.

Diablo 2 is great. Sure it's kind of a point-and-click but developing your character succesfully and getting the good items makes it fun.

Yeah the demo kind of sucks. Just the barb, argh well I could see why he's the easiest class to play. But isn't there only skills to slvl 1 too?

Learning curve... it's easy to kill guys of course you just click them but it will take you a bit to understand stats, skills, and it does get hard once you get far into the game especially if you're character has wasted skills which is likely for a 1st timer.

Just wanted to point out (someone has to do it) that Diablo (2) is not exactly a typical RPG. If you want a typical RPG, play BG or BG2. Note that I am not saying either is better, but Diablo is just a bit too much action and fighting to be a typical RPG.

Brotherman: LOL there is no way D2 requires more skill than fps games. Anyone can be good at Hack and slash games with the time, whereas some people will never be good at fps games.

I love D2, I was even in the closed beta test...but I gotta go with Doomguy on this one Brotherman. That's complete BS that it takes more skill than a FPS.

Thanks for all the replys.

After all that, I ended up buying Alice 'cause it was on sale at BB (and I really liked the Demo).

Someday I will get away from FPS to RPS . . . In a week or two, I'll give the Diablo Demo a try to see if I like the genre (in the meantime I off to Wonderland).

I just found out the Diablo II demo I downloaded yesterday was NOT the "official" demo. A new one is out 6 megs larger . . . 3dfiles has the updated demo.

No way a 640 MB modem download. It'd take nearly a week of overnight downloads.

BTW, Alice is a pretty cool game.

doomguy, its no hack and slash... u low lvl guys dunno the exact timings/angles/spots to ww or where to teleport, how to use bonewall with IM and etc. i started playin FPS since quake1 came out and in HL or UT i almost always get the first or second place on usual private servers... my opinion anyway 🙂
