I burned a backup copy of Diablo II. When I tried it out on my backup system, it wiped out all information about my CD-ROM and networking. Every time I try any type of application other than shut down the system locks up tight as a drumb. The only way I can operate at all is in safe-mode. Any suggestions? Please help. I really don't want to reformat if possible.

Not unless Blizzard found a way to plant a virus in copies of Diablo. I haven't downloaded anything on that computer. This all happened as soon as I tried out the burnt copy of Diabla II. It first told me to put in the play copy of the program,,,Next thing I knew it didn't recognise either of the cd-roms. When I rebooted the computer, it told me that there was an error with my networking and would have to reinstall it. I reinstalled the software for the cd-rom but it makes me reboot to activate it,,,then it gets wiped out again. I tried booting up with my start-up disk with cd support,,but no recognition of cd-rom.

*Might* be a coincidence that your CD-ROM decided to give out after that burn... have you tried the burnt copy on another comp?

Surely you gest about trying it on another computer. It went straight into the trash. All I need is to lock up another hard drive. It's bad enough that I may have to reformat one.
