Diablo II Battle.net Gem

I just remembered the old chat gem on Battle.net in Diablo II. Did anybody ever figure out what it does?

I think it was supposed to have a purpose but Blizzard just never got around to implement it.

Haven't played in awhile but I believe it does nothing, as I recall no packets are sent.

Answered long time ago, never did anything. Heck, I didn't even know about it until they officially said it did nothing.
