Diablo II and WIN2K

The game used to run fine but now its laggy and runs in a window on the desktop. What is wrong and how do I fix this? I want full screen and no lagginess. I only thing that is different is that I changed monitors.

This system is an Athlon 600MHz with 128MB RAM and a CL Riva TNT2 on an MSI board (don't remember which chipset - maybe AMD 750 - but this is an older one since the Athlon is one of the 0.25 micron dies). I thikn with this setup it shouldn't be laggy since it wasn't before on the old Gateway EV700 monitors. The new monitor is a SONY CPD 200ES. Same desktop resolution and same size monitor.

What do I do to fix this?

Try turning the music off that helps with lag. I'm having lag and lockup troubles. Anyone out there know why Diablo 2 freeze everything? See any hardware conflicts?

It sometimes BSODs in WIN2K when I trying jumping into an area that I can't be in (like the background in Arcane Santuary). Other than that and it locking up when my computer shuts off the monitor (power saving feature), I have no real problems with Diablo 2 on my other computer.

the same thing happened to me playing Rune after i installed win2k. IN my opinion some games will just run choppyer by a margin as if u would run them on win98 or winME - I think win2k is not a great gaming platform for now couse 90% of the games on the shelves right now are for 98,ME. Anyways the way i fix the problem in Rune, i made sure that i had the correct drivers for my card(TNT2-M64) for win2k which would be the detonator ones. PPL say that the newest detonator drivers may slow down ur v.card (anything onlder than the geForce) and that is true cuz even win2k will slow it down even more (not the card but the games) but u can compensate for that by o/cing the GPU on ur card - quite easy to do.

Anywas to make it short, make sure u get the newest drivers for ur card and that they are for win2k and make sure to setup the game correctly - i think diablo2 runs on direct draw so make sure in u video options in the game u set it on direct draw....not openGL or direct3D (although that is possible too, i think. This should fix the problem.

Toxic, you have 128MB of memory or less don't you?

It's not a matter of Win2k being slow for games (because it isn't!), it's that it needs more memory.
