Diablo 3 question

I never got into the Diablo series game because I always felt that the overwhelming mass of monsters one had to face every minute made the game extremely repetitive. I'm one of those people that appreciated the much fewer encounters in Doom III than the original onslaught of monsters in the earlier game.
My question is this, does anyone know if it will be possible to both lesson the sheer number of enemies in Diablo III and at the same time raise their hitpoints?
I've always felt that fewer more intense battles with lots of time to worry about what hideous creatures you'd be facing next was the best formula.

Eh, I think it would be too major a break from their classic formula. If you want fewer monsters that are harder to kill, check out the original Diablo.

It's hack and slash, if you don't like it, honestly, you're looking at the wrong game. No offense. If you're looking for more intense, tactical battles, Dragon Age: Origins might be something for you.

Sounds like there will be some of both. If you check out the original gameplay vid from the worldwide invitational, you see some normal mass encounters, and at the end an epic boss fight of 4 characters vs 1 giant boss that lasts a few minutes.

If the number of monsters decrease it shouldn't be named Diablo at all, and if you've watched the various game-play videos you'll understand that it will certainly end up being a bad game for you, since they've indeed kept their original "mass monsters against you whatever is your class and level" formula, and in my book it's a good thing, there are other games with similar game-play and fewer encounters.
