Very strategic move on their part. Diablo only nets them what they sell, whereas WoW will continue to make money for some of those people. Either way is a win/win for them.

Last time I subscribed I don't think there was even a year. There's 6 months for like $77. But ya you get an in game mount as well.

Don't forget the cash AH - I suspect they'll be making a fair amount in fees.

Yeah. If they released Diablo 3...first quarter 2012 I would cancel my SWTOR pre-order in a heartbeat.

Just saw that.

Smart and canny marketing as always from Blizzard. Commit to spending $180 and get a free game that opens up the huge wow playerbase to the micro-transactions on Diablo 3's auction house. Also going to be an effort to get back those 1,000,000 subscribers they lost.

Cheeky buggers. I'm still not renewing my wow subscription ever again and this panda xpac will be the first xpac I don't buy.

I'll buy my D3 CE and enjoy that :)

wow what a great deal, diablo3 for only $180 bucks?

Well, if you were going to subscribe to it anyway, it's not a bad deal to get as a freebie. What I'd like to see is for those of us who have been playing for years and have already paid Blizz a ton of cash to get the game for free as well.

Note that you don't actually pre-pay the entire year. It's like a cellphone contract... you say you'll subscribe for a year and pay however you want.

Thought this was going to be a deal... unfortunately I had no idea how expensive a year of WoW was :(

Oh well, this is probably fantastic news for any Diablo fans who already play WoW. I myself will stick with D3 only.

A good attempt at preventing some hemorrhaging of subscriptions when TOR hits and when D3 hits. This way they can keep those numbers up regardless if people that do this quit WOW.

So basically Blizzard is admitting that WoW is starting to die? Finally.

I don't even know. I mean. I burnt out of WoW after 3 or so years....and haven't returned since..but what else is there?

I don't think Blizzard really competes with anyone but itself..

(Although I always root for the other MMORPGS...but they never do anything different aside from EVE..in attempting to clone WoW's success)

wow what a great deal, diablo3 for only $180 bucks?

it would be 150 if you paid every month

less if you pay in 3 or 6 month increments and i beleive even less if you pay a full year at once

still not worth it for someone not allready playing wow

unless it ends up being cheaper then buying the collectors ED outright its a bad deal

Did prices change for wow subs?

I thought "pay each month" = $15 (+tax in some states).

12 months x $15/mo = $180.

You are correct. Price is $14.99/mo. Cheaper with multi-month plans. Blizz makes clear that all you are doing is committing to sub for a year, but your current billing scheme will remain unchanged.

It seems they also thought of everything. From the extended FAQ:

What if I purchase the Diablo III Collector's Edition? If you decide to purchase the Diablo III Collector's Edition when it's available, and then choose to add your Collector's Edition license key to the Battle.net account associated with your existing World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion, you will receive all of the benefits associated with the Collector's Edition, plus receive four months of World of Warcraft game time which is eligible towards your 12-month subscription commitment. After you purchase the Diablo III Collector's Edition you just need to input the product key into the Battle.net account associated with your World of Warcraft 12-month commitment and that account will then receive the next 4 months of World of Warcraft game time for free. For example, if you already had a month of game time on the associated World of Warcraft account when you input your Diablo III Collector's Edition product key, it would then be 5 months until your next subscription payment was due.

TOR, which is why this deal is happening now.

They're scared. Interesting.

Great news for people who play WoW anyway. Insignificant news to just about everyone else.
