DIABLO 2 IS SO FREAKING SLOW!!

I dunno why..my diablo 2 is choppy as hell, it's like playing a nightmare lagging game of starcraft. I defragged right before I installed the game...is it my comp?

i have pii 400
128 ram
nvidia riva 128ZX (8MB)

if it's the video card what should i get as a minimum...

The memory management of DII sucks big time. I've seen reports on this board that the game can consume ~512Mb of cache and still lag. There is a new memory management system in the 1.02 patch, so you might try it.

I have a PII-350 with 64Mb ram, and I only have minor lag, but I still have it when te game loads complex structures. I've heard mutch reports of crappy performance in Direct3D mode, so I think it's you vidcard. I have a Voodoo2 12Mb and I run in Glide.

Remember that Glide and software mode were the only API's were during development, and that D3D was only later added. Try to find a glide board and see if the game still has it lag

I have 2 systems running v3's, and I have somewhat the same problem. I've been playing the game like a madman, and it IS working, but it gets really chunky at times. There will times in multiplayer on my lan at home that I'll see my guy JUMP across the screen to where it should have been. It's very disconcerting, and I am running in Glide on both of my machines.

In addition to installing the 1.02 patch, turn off the "Perspective" effect in the Video Options Setup. It helped cut down the choppiness for me. I had no problems when I was using a Voodoo5 5500 with this effect, but when I went back to the GF2 GTS and Voodoo2, this slowdown occurred.

The choppiness is still bad after applying the 1.02 patch. Tonight i died twice. I would go down stairs, my hard drive would whir for about 30 secs then i would be dead without ever seeing the fight.
Somedays i preferred the old Diablo, Hackers and all
