do you guys still play this game? I just got the exp from a friend and i feel like playing it again. what is the best race to use?
 
If you have the 1.10 patch installed (was just released) try playing assassin with 1 point in Blade Fury. Don't want more in it, just 1 point.
Then get as many things as possible which cast spells 'on striking'.

You can put the rest of the skill points in traps.
 
I had been playing pretty heavily since 1.10 came out. Stopped playing last weekend after I became a victim of the hacking that was going on. Had a level 94 amazon on the ladder that's still there in the top 10. Too bad she doesn't have any gear anymore. 🙁

Level 48 Necro, Level 22 Pally and Level 24 Zon - Deceased level ~45 sorc.
 
for starting out with no uber-gear NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING can beat a hammerdin with full synergies. I was pumping out 5k damage hammers @ only level 23 blessed hammer. get some more +skill items and the damage ramps up to insane values. oh.. and these are magical damage so they ignore demon and undead resists.

oh... and you can solo the diablo-clone.
 
I installed and played it a lot a couple weeks ago but I've been tapering off. Gotta set the pipe down. (d2 = crack 😉) j/k... Anyway I got a lvl 73 pvp assasin, lvl 40 fireball sorc (the new patch makes these overpowered as fvck so I did one!) and a lvl 35 pally. It's just kinda pointless to pvp without godly equipment.
 
hm.. that reminds me, ask me anything about diablo ii, I probably know the answer 😉 strategy, classes, anything..

hows the assassin? whats the best skill i should invest in? and what is pvp? person vs. person?

btw, how much damages does she do and what kinda of equipment do you have?
 
I've given up on it since I still haven't heard anything back from Blizzard about restoring my account. Funny thing is I haven't played in over 3 weeks now and I'm still listed on the first page of the zon ladder. 😛
 
I started D2 again 3 weeks ago, I have a Level 79 Hammerdin and a Level 23 Lightning Javazon. Hammerdins are definitely the 1.10 cookie cutter build. They're too easy too make and the synergies have made Blessed Hammer overpowered. I plan to make a Trapsassin after I'm done with the Javazon. Overall, I'm happy with 1.10, it sparked my interest in the game again. Hell is pretty damn hard without high resists and a good party.
 
Pvp is player vs. player. But like I said, I don't play her much after realizing how unfair pvp is unless you got godly equip (she's my highest level char, and I've found junk so far really). Her skills are maxed dragon claw for dual bartucs, max claw block, max claw mastery (some ppl say don't max, but I had the points and without good equip the +dmg and +ar is a MUST). The rest is mostly one point and +skills into things like tiger strike, mind blast, burst of speed, etc... Her stats were enough str to use equipment (79 for bartucs I think), about 140 dex, and the rest vitality. This build is very good for pvp but isn't really effective for pvm as one would expec.

I have a pvm assasin that is on hold cause I needed her bartucs. She is primarily phoenix strike. You max phoenix strike, then max the synergies. THe third charge ice bolt is too weak though so I only focused on the fire and lightning syngergies. I tried to have some martial arts too for elemtnal resistance.

I've never done much with traps other than a point in death sentry for the corpse explode, and a point in lightning sentry for my pvp assy (trap + mindblast = stunlock). I have seen some damn good trappasins though, just look for a build if that's what you want.

I don't play much lately though. It was just a 2 week binge or so 🙂.

edit: I don't remember the dmg. I use two bartucs, one with a 29% ED jewel in it. My equip is mostly mid quality rares that I've found. Both rings are +5% bonus to AR, and so is my ammy, and my final ar is about 5500, but trust me you don't hit sh*t still against other players.
 
I went to reinstall it the other day so I could make sure I still have my characters but I don't have the cd keys I need with me 😱
 
I got it installed, but I don't care too much anymore. I used to waste tons of time on it. V1.1 hasn't brought back my interests.

Besides, my cable modem (Charter Comm in Riverside, CA) is too laggy.

how long did it take you get to such a high level in ladder?
