Is there an image improvement if you run in D3D compared to 2d??

Reason i´m asking is that i can only run in 2D but wonder if it is worth the truble trying to sort it out....

Everytime i start in D3D i get the black screen with Scrambled colors.???

System:

Athlon 550
Geforce pro, Detonator 5.22
D-X 7
Bios 1005

Any good ideas?????

Im having poor performance, but no other problems, everything looks right etc.
Using a CLAP with the 5.30 detonators(but it also worked with the 5.16's).

I had the same problem with TNT2 using 3.68 drivers. Installed the 5.22 and problem went away!

I have a GeForce on a cmine system and D3d runs fine. I got rid of the scrambled colors by going from the 3.68 to 5.22 detonator drivers (which I see you're already running). Note that I did full removal of the 3.68 drivers, including deleting the registry entries and finding and removing all nv... files. You might try this method if you haven't already.

In addition, when I went to the 5.22 drivers, I was still getting a black screen, but this was due to the fact that the 5.22 drivers default to a refresh rate in 640x480 that some monitors can't interpret, including newer monitors like my pf790. I had to manually change the default rate for 640x480 from "optimal" to an actual value...this solved the black screen in Diablo II, which, as you likely know, runs in 640x480 mode.

Good luck.

Oh, and to answer your original question, there is not a huge difference in 2d, as compared to d3d. However, the enhanced lighting in d3d is nice.
