Oh please, he's not going to get obese on a bottle or two of gatorade, even the large bottles. Shit I don't think he can even become fat on gatorade, he'd have to be drinking gallons of that stuff per day which I don't recommend.
Someone who is obese inevitably develops insulin resistance. Spiking their blood sugar over and over makes it worse. Insulin resistance has been causally tied to obesity. It's a vicious cycle. Sugar is the devil when it comes to overweight people losing weight in a way WAY WAY WAY beyond the calories it contains.

I know a guy who had type 2 diabetes (A1C test confirmed it) and after changing his diet and eating habits, no longer has type 2 diabetes (subsequent A1C test confirmed it). Spiking blood sugar thing really applies to anyone and frankly, gatorade has a bit of sugar but not so much to be paranoid about. Unless the guy is taking insulin for type 2 (which isn't recommended anyway), type 2 isn't like type 1 where the effects of blood sugar spiking are much more pronounced. He's not going to go into a diabetic coma from some gatorade.
