I had a network that was somewhat cobbed up. I had a used SOHO 6 from Watchguard installed as my main firewall. Then behind that I put my wireless router, I left it as a router because i wanted the laptops, and home PC's connected to it to be separate from the other network i had straight off of the SOHO. I work on people's home machines on the side and I need to make sure, if one of them is infected with anything, it can't talk to my trusted network.
It worked fine, however I was not able to remote into my home server with this setup, which was less important than making sure my home computers were screened from my "bench" network.
I recently came into a new Watchguard Firebox X10e (edge). Since this device has an optional network that is activated (the SOHO did not have an active one, and it is no longer able to get them either), I was able to separate my networks on one device.
I set the trusted side to 192.168.111.1, and the optional to 122.168.112.1. I then set the wireless router to a static IP of 192.168.111.2 and turned off DHCP. Took the wire out of the WAN port and put it in the first "Switch" port. My PC is plugged into port 2 of the DI-524 and it began working with an IP of 192.168.111.3 immediately. I checked my iPhone, and it also began working on the wireless, with my same WEP key (i know, i am probably going to change it to WPA soon) just fine. I didnt bother to check the laptops, before I went to work.
I received a call from my wife asking why she couldnt connect to the wireless with her laptop when she got home, we went through a few things and i'm like WTF, my iPhone worked fine so i didn't think i would have to check the laptops, i assumed they would behave in the same manner. However I am wrong, they will NOT connect to the router (now glorified WAP). It just says cannot connect. To rub this in even further, my Wii is also online and functioning fine on the wireless. I have deleted and recreated the wireless connection on the laptops, uninstalled/reinstalled the adapter, and even added the wireless network manually to the connection, no dice.
What is more, the static IP i set will not work to allow me into the router to do any configs. Am I missing something or do I need to just reset the whole router back to factory and start over?
