I have a little problem in a lab I work in. To reduce the various hubs and power adapters a spare 3560 was used. The switch is split up into about 5 port based VLANs. Up to now this has been working fine. I have one port based VLAN that is used to connect equipent using static IP addressing. The switch is running IOS 12.2
What I have now is a piece of equipment that will only work with DHCP. I have configured the DHCP server on the switch for the address, but the DHCP request does not get answered. As a work around an XP machine has been connected using a freeware DHCP server, but this is tying up that machine. The ports are on VLAN id 112. What do I need to get the DHCP server on the switch to answer the DHCP request. I only need the DHCP server to talk to the ports on VLAN 112. I have asked the resident experts (at work not here) on Cisco but they seemed supprised that you could have a DHCP server on the 3560. At present the switch does not have an IP address of its own.
I have tried google, and the cisco website. The main topic that seems to come up is snooping, which, as far as I know, is to limit handling of DHCP requests.
The DHCP server will only have a scope of 2 IP addresses. The network on the VLAN used has a 255.255.255.248 subnet mask. The other 4 addresses are used for the default gateway, and 3 static IP addresses.
Thanks in advance for any help.
