DHCP renewal

Hi all,

Was wondering if someone can help me with this...

I have a machine which gets its IP from a DHCP server and it's turned on 24/7. When and how will my machine be assigned a new IP address in this case?
Does it occur:

1) After the IP address has expired the lease even if connected to the network?
2) After the IP address has expired the lease when it has been disconnected from the network?

When the lease is halfway, it asks for a renewal. So it only expires when not connected.

Thanks for the info. Would you know what's the default number of days before the lease expires?
