DHCP Problem

Okay...I have a Dell laptop that I'm working on for a client. It has a fresh load of Windows XP with SP2 applied.

Here's the problem. No matter what connection that I use to access the internet (onboard LAN, external USB D-Link LAN, Wireless PC Card) if the device is using DHCP then about 2-3 times per minute it looses connection and re-acquires an IP address.

I thought it was just the external USB one, then I plugged it into the onboard and it did the same thing so I thought maybe something wrong with the cable. I then used the wireless and it's doing the same thing so that eliminates adapter issues.

Anyone have any idea? I've checked services and they seem fine. I just don't want to have to reload the OS again when that may not fix the issue.

Oh...and the DHCP is working fine on the network - bunches of other computers using it with no trouble.

I would throw a static IP on the sucker, see if it's related to DHCP, or general network related.

Then I would pull out my trusty hub and ethereal to see what is happening.

Yeah I almost got out a sniffer.

I figured out the problem - it was the 2Wire HomePortal software causing problems that was installed with the 2Wire card.
