Ok I just formatted my roommates computer and everytime she reboots I have to release and renew her IP to get it to work?

It's a Linksys LNE100TX NIC. Our connection here at school is DHCP and everything is set to DHCP.

Also it won't even connect unless TCP/IP, Netbuei, and IPX are all in the network dialog box. It's very weird. Then when everything is there you have to run winipcfg everytime on bootup.

Any ideas. I looked for updated drivers but anything off of Linksys is just as old as the drivers I have.

DHCP doesn't work with netbeui. Netbeui doesn't use IP-adresses...

What kind of OS do you use? Have you tried to set TCP/IP as the default protocol?

Need a little more info.

Yes believe me I've tried everything. Thats the weird thing. Nothing will work unless TCP/IP, Netbeui, and IPX are in the dialog bok. I know its hard to believe but it will not retrive an IP unless they are all in there.

I'm going to swap slots this afternoon and look for updated drivers somewhere else. I'm just baffled at the moment.

I'm assuming you're on a campus network...so a few things to check:
Is your roommate registered to be on the network?
Has AOL ever been installed? (if so, deleting AOL adapters may help)
Are you certain that the TCP/IP protocol is bound to the linksys, not to modems/etc?
Have you tried an officially supported card?
Have you tried giving a call to helpdesk? They're the people who know your network and its quirks the best and are probably your best resource...

Well it's not a new card. It's been in there for 2 years. This is the first fresh install though. So I know it worked before just fine.

I'll double check everything this afternoon. I'm sure its just something small but I just can't understand why I have to release and renew evertime on bootup. Once you do it once it's fine.

Very weird.
