I learn. 🙂
Ok my home LAN has two pcs with static IPs.
I want to connect a laptop to this LAN,
All systems run windows 2000.
I use a linkys BFSR41 router with the latest firmware.
All pcs including the laptop are set to the same workgroup. and all are set to use netbios over tcp/ip.
I want the laptop to use DHCP, and it does get an IP and can ping to all (router, two other pcs)
one pc has no firewall while the other uses Keiro personal firewall.
If I type //pc_1/shared_folder at the laptop, I can see the content of the first pc as well as the second.
I can print from the laptop to a printer connected to the second pc.

BUT when I click the computers near me I get an error window.

what can I do?

So I gather it all has to do with user permitions.
So, how is it that I can reach the two pcs, shared folders, if I direct access them like:
//pc_1_name/shared_folder_name/
I can see all the files there and even run programs from there.
Any other commands I can run to clerify this issue?

what are the user names you are logging in as? Administrator?

EDIT:

What protocols do you have running on the machines? If you have Netbios running on one machine, it has prolly binded to TCP, so you need to add it to all the machines in your network properties...
