Man, I am replying too much in this thread. :p

Dinosaur Valley is AWESOME. Been there a few times, approximately 70 miles south of Dallas. It has the best dino tracks in the world, I kid you not. It was a trip to watch it on the Discovery channel. Very surreal, and zen like to touch a dino track, time stands still when you think of the age. Hard to comprehend that.

Oh if your wife loves Antiques and shopping, Dallas is the place, maybe I shouldn't of said that. Hah. Another neat place about 1.5 hours south of Dallas is Salado, small antique town, very quaint.

Oh I don't want to bore you about my job. I do like it though. :)

Daughter & I did a canoe trip at Glen Rose a couple of weeks ago, we're going to do an overnight trip or 2 this summer in the area:D

Post away, this is ATOT where you cannot possibly post too much. :) About antiques, my wife adores antiques. And I linked her to this thread earlier so the cat is now out of the bag. :p

Before counting on the 'no state income tax' thing, check into it a bit with some people who live there...

A friend recently moved to FL and the no income tax thing was in his + column, but he found that although there is no income tax, they kill you with many fees, liscenses, etc throughout the year. Said it was about a wash with the PA income tax.

What I've witnessed around the Ft. Worth area is that they don't make a real clear issue about the property taxes when you figure the house purchase payments -
an Escrow Account to cover that is a must.

Several people who bought homes over the last three years thought that they had great deals after moving here from Seattle and Denver,
then were in for big supprises when they got 6 month tax due notices in January -
one lady had to pop for $ 3,000 on short notice just after Christmas.
Another man decided to hold a predetermined amount into a saving account so he could cover it when it came due, maybe you can get it that way with some financers.

Either way, there are still some good home pricing deals in North Texas, many new subdivisions or even cunstom builders.

My suggestion is to find an appartment or a small family home and rent for a year with the plan being to buy or build after you have a chance
to evaluate the area in interactive real time and find for yourselves what, and where things meet your personal preferences.

Yeah, it's another pain in the ass move - but you get a chance to correct any minor mistake with a minimum of dispair.

It's pretty much the same here. You really have to escrow the taxes or you get raped twice a year. We'll definitely be doing the same thing if we move there.

We shall see. The wife will have a lot of input into how we got about relocating, she being the homemaker that she is. :)

Precisely where is the place where you will be working ?

What are your commuting wants/desires for work and socializing.

I'll ask people I work with who may live in that direction what their Pros & cons are.
Lot's of real estate to deal with, ranging from rolling hils, lakes, plains, prarie, rivers, & wooded simi-remote areas that are
10 - 20 miles from the city proper in the North-West quadrant of town - could be only 1/2 hour in either direction.

The plant is called Wise County Power Generation and the street address is in Poolville. It's right off of 199, about 20min west of Azle IIRC. Thanks for the help.

My commuting wants/needs are less than an hour one way, half an hour would be terrific. We'd like to get a piece of land big enough to have a horse on. Not shoehorned in but with room to trot and all that. Trees and hills would be perfect for us.

No, we don't want to be house poor. We're thinking of staying under $180K. In that area that is ALOT of house. We've been all over Realtor.com over the past few days. Our opportunities abound.
