Dfi's Juicey X48 Motherboard

I've got the feeling that your post gets moved to the Motherboard forum, which would be a more appropriate place for your post. Or to CPUs and Overclocking. But General Hardware is so general 😛 for a OC's wet dream motherboard 😉

It's like an IFX or something... From what I can tell, the board has 1 PCI-E x1, 3 PCI, and 3 PCI-E x16 slots. When you put two cards in, they run at x16, three cards runs at x8.

IT really, really, really, really pains me to say it but, I don't like the expansion slot layout. How are you supposed to run three dual slot cards in this? 🙁 I didn't think the day would come where I would have to point out just a blatant F-up on DFI's part. 🙁

It is actualy only 2 x16 and 1 x8 slot Or 3 x8 slots for crossfireX. The pic of the board on AT has a totaly different layout for the slots. Not sure whats what.

DFI makes some of the better motherboards I've seen... generally they have excellent expansion slot layouts [don't know why this one is so... sub-par], excellent BIOSes, and no useless PCI-e x1 slots to take the places of potentially useful PCI slots.

You say this but yet your pc rig mentions you have 1 of these MoBo's? well this is something to keep in mind....i take it would be quite impossible to fit 4 x2 hd3870's in?

well, at this point, I'm not sure what the final layout is going to be, there are two different versions of this board floating around at this point. '

Yup, I have a DFI board. My next board is going to be a DFI too, the LP DK P35. I tend to bet the one after that will be a DFI too.

With the layout displayed on DFI's site, no, you won't be able to put 4 3870X2's in it, nor do I think there is going to be driver support for 8 graphics cores in one system, that'd just be crazy.

all in the eye of the beholder

I think just about all other motherboards look like bland and boring crap compared to DFI's Lan Party series. Black PCB + bright neonish ports and slots that are also UV reactive is so less boring. Not that either way matters if you have it locked away in a case without a window.

That blurry bit has something to do with thermaltakes new heating system

yeah, they're just trying to be dramatic before they reveal whatever cooling system they got Thermalright to cook up for them.

That all being said, I find it hard to get too excited about this board as it is undoubtedly going to be way too expensive to justify. It should be cool to see how (or I guess 'if') it can push the boundaries of performance.

LT X48-T2R

Looks like there's going to be a version more readily obtained by mere mortals, although @ $299 the price of admission is still very high.

This LT version will not come with an elaborate heatpipe setup designed by Thermalright, and it also supports DDR2 vs. the higher priced DDR3 supported by the UT X48-T3R.

DFI's offering of X48 supporting DDR2? Sign me up please.

They also showed off a DK X48 @ Cebit, which I would guess would come with a ~$249 price tag (although only 4 phase power, as opposed to 8 of the LT/UT), so that's 3 flavors of X48, 2 with DDR2 and 1 with DDR3.

pics of some of DFI's new lineup

UT P45-T3R
DK P45-T2R
UT X48-T3R
LT X48-T2R
DK X48-T2R

For s775, the UT boards are back and this time they appear to be solely featuring DDR3, the rest will remain DDR2. Unfortunately no LT P45-T2R thus far.

Obviously they have some new AMD platform offerings, but given DFI's reputation, I'm not sure how many people here are truly interested in those boards 😛
