DFI... WTF?!

/RANT

I was having problems with my DFI motherboard... it would not take any RAM in the 1st or second slots closest to CPU, and even with ram in the other slots, would not finish a boot at all but would reboot before it got to the OS load.

I first tried to get ahold of them, eventualy by email, and told them my problem. They refered me to RMA person Susan who gave me an RMA number. I shipped it to them for $30, got it back a couple days ago, and after a couple hours of use it turns out that nothing is fixed at all!!

I call the tech number posted on the website, and noted in the emails, but it was disconnected.

I then replied to the email they sent me, reminding them of the problem they didn't fix, and asking for a phone number I could use to talk to them so they could explain what was going on, and maybe troubleshoot my problem.

I just checked my email, and now two days later I get a failure notice from the mail daemon!

WTF? So, I can't call them or email them to get tech support help after they DON'T fix my motherboard? How convenient.

Some explanation is needed.....

/end rant

Edit:
I just got a delivery failure notice from the email I sent to techsupport@dfiweb.com.

Has the company gone out of business? Or are they just rejecting my emails and blocking my phone number?

Here is the contact information page. Nothing on it works.

Edit:
I got the following reply just now:
"All email for RMA or otherwise comes thru the same server that has been up again with minor glitches only since this Monday morning. It is up now and is the only reason your email is able to be read by anyone since all are on the same server as it is in many smaller company offices. Please contact rma@dfiweb.com or call 510-226-7500 ext 118 for rma warranty service. That previous sentence there reflects the new contact phone number in CA and with a server in operation, the email address remained the same. Thank you."

I guess they made "upgrades" or had some massive outage.... Still not very professional.

I'd be the board is OK, it's just the memory settings in the BIOS. I've got a Lanparty NF4 and it's very sensitive to memory settings, of which there are dozens of settings, many more than most boards. Too bad DFI Street bit the dust...

I ran it for a year and a half before it went bad though. I can't even get into the BIOS to change the clocks or settings now. :frown: But I may see what I can figure out. It would help if I could get ahold of them to see what they suggest.

To make sure it was just the motherboard I got a cheap POS ECS board from Frys for $25. It seems to be working great right now.

Maybe try CMOS reset to reset all settings to default?
(Read manual on how to do that)

I have done that several times. It gets further right with a fresh CMOS reset (moving the jumper or taking battery out), but once you change something in the BIOS and reboot, the problem occurs again.

It's possible is has something to do with a corrupt BIOS, so I bet if that is the case they either just flashed it so it worked for a little while, or replaced it. Either way it was not a perminent fix.

I had considered re-flashing it. Maybe with an older version?

At this point I don't think you have anything to lose. Flash it.
Don't know with which version, but flash it.
