Wow, so does this mean you can buy the DFI nForce 4 Ultra and still use the SLI capabilities? Nice.

Yes. Just do a real minor mod on the northbridge, which will make it the SLI. The shipping bios is identical between the the Ultra and the SLI. 😉

It's too bad DFI was forced to remove the SLI connector from the Ultra board bundle. I think AnandTech spoke too soon. 🙁

its not "intended" for SLI but as a way to run two video cards so that you can have 4 monitors connected. Maybe a SLI connector is included maybe not. Also a simple mod can make it a full blown SLI 🙂

At this point there is no way to run the Ultra in SLI with the latest drivers. So, if you do the mod in the article, you are stuck with old drivers. With SLI this is a particular problem, because nVidia will be adding supported games over time. There is some suggestion in the article that it would be possible to do additional board mods to over come this. I'd expect those to be much harder than just using a number 2 pencil.

That's what the mod does, turns the board into an SLI, where all the current and newly released drivers will work in SLI. 😉
