The X800XL doesn't require an extra power connector, so don't worry about that.
Those metal pieces that came with the PSU are probably for locking it in some "unconvenient" cases, not sure though.
As for the fan coming with male/female connector, that's because you plug it to a molex connector from the PSU, but you can still use that connector for other devices through the other connector, makes sense?
I hope that was helpful. You got a nice PC there, enjoy!

Ahh, cool so its like an extension. Gotcha.

But howcome the fans run off the mobo plug?
should i connect both the small mobo plug and the large 4pin? Or just one or the other?

I don't get that.

the smaller (3-pin) connecter going to the mobo is 5v which will run the fan slower a tad quieter, the larger 4-pin molex plugs into 12v which will run the fan quicker a tad noisier (not as quiet), do not plug them both in... this is a choice whether you want quietness or a cooler system... that applies to fans with both options... also plugging into mobo sys-fan connections usually will give you temp info & fan speed readings... its a choice one or the other...

Be careful though. For example, you don't want to leave a Vantec Tornado drawing power just through the motherboard, because a very strong high rpm fan like that will draw so much power, it will potentially damagae the mobo. However, some fans come with a 3 pin lead that only has one yellow wire coming from it, along with a 4-pin connection. The yellow is strictly for detecting RPM's.
