No.

The extra 4 ATA ports on the DR boards won't be locked (IIRC). Meaning that they might not be very useful if you plan on doing overclocking. And if you're not doing overclocking, the DFI boards are overkill.

I can't think of any devices I personally need a parallel port for.

I have a parallel printer but the dfi ultra-d is still my number one board now. I hate my printer more than anything, its a laser printer from '96 so its slower than anything and can't print pics, so i'll be glad to get rid of it.

not having a parallel port is a joke.. no biggie there.
4 sata ports.. potentially.
4 hds is a lot.
i allready have an msi neo4 but the dfi is a nice board.

so basically your saying the dr series boards won't overclock as well because the four extra ports aren't locked?

I'm no expert on this, but my reading on these forums indicates that SATA drives are extremely sensitive to overclocking. SATA HDs on the NV4 SATA ports won't be affected, since these ports are locked. But SATA HDs on the Sil ATA ports (the extra 4) are likely to cause a lot of instability, and might well prevent you from achieving anything but the most limited overclock.

So, the DR boards will overclock just fine as long as you place SATA HDs only on the NV4 SATA ports. That's why the extra SATA ports are irrelevant: I wouldn't use them, since I want to get good overclocks. And if I wern't planning on OC'ing, why would I purchase a DFI MB?

Luckily my laser printer has a parallel and USB connection, so I'm good to go. Ultra-D should be here today. 😀

Getting mine today as well. It took 14 hrs for Purolator to ship it from Vancouver to Montreal. Amazing. (that's across canada for those who don't know)
