my friend just got a dfi mboard and nvidia 7600gt from newegg. windows installed fine but cannot find display adaptor for pci exp card. nothing in device manager. driver install from nvidia cd says cant find hardware. factory bios set at default. vcard plugged into 1st pci e slot (slot 2 also tried too) no go! all motherboard drivers installed ok. we did notice that there are three pins on vcard that appear to be for power, but no power cord was supplied.

we then installed a regular pci vcard into pci slot and windows picked it right up with display adaptor showing in device manager.

any info would be apreciated

found out that this card doesnt need external power

hardware is installed in a new antec tower with 380 watt antec tp

could this not be enough amps to fire up 7600gt?

exchanged vcard for new one at circuit city.....still no go

I am going to assume you have the eVGA 7600GT. Looking at their website, I see this...

Requirements
Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)

I checked out the specs of your PSU on Newegg and it looks like your +12 Volt is only 16. Maybe you should try a stronger PSU?

Check BIOS setting that INIT DISPLAY FIRST is set to PCIE & make sure all 4 power connections on board are made
