I'm assuming you mean PCIE slots 1 and 4. I've read that slot 1 runs at 16x and slot 2 runs at 2x. If you move the SLI jumpers to the "ON" position, both slots will run at 8x. I read on the DFI-STREET forums that the performance difference between 8x and 16x on this board was very minimal. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

It hardly matters. I am doing the exact same thing to bring my chipset temps down. runs just fine :) just be sure to move the jumpers or youl be on 2x which will be a performance facotr ;)

I think I read on a review site (Anand or Toms) that 8x PCIX is about as fast as 8x AGP, and even the most powerful graphics cards are barely choked by 4x AGP. So you should not notice a difference between PCIX 8x or 16x. But it will be slow if you leave the bottom one running at 1x if that's your graphics card.

but is the 16x worth all the heat and stuff? or is 2x fine because i dont really get bad fps or anything. im oced to 430/1.15 this might be a little high but it runs perfect for me with load temps of maybe 66 around. whats best to do? any suggestions?

I didn't know about switching the jumpers to SLI mode until today, but after I did so, Windows' Device Manager now says I have 2 display adapters, "Radeon X800" and "Radeon X800 Secondary". Is this normal?

Yes, it's completely normal on ATI cards.

2x will be a bottleneck, I'd just move the SLI jumpers so it runs at 8x.
