New System build:
DFI Lanparty nf4 Ultra-d
AMD 64 X2 3800+
Thermaltake Big Typhoon CPU Cooler
2 GB Crucial PC4000 CAS2 memory
ATI X800 Pro VIVO
74 GB Raptor
2 NEC DVD Burners
2 additional PATA drives
Seasonic S12 500W PS
Thermaltake Armor Case

Symptoms: Started up computer (first try!) and went into BIOS. Monitored temps for several minutes to be sure the cooling was good (CPU never exceeded 36 C). Rebooted the computer and loaded the latest BIOS from floppy. Rebooted and entered the BIOS and set to optimized defaults. Rebooted and started Win XP Pro clean installation from CD. Windows install ran for a couple of minutes, loading all the various files, and then hung up on the "Installing Windows" message. Pressed ATX power button for 4 seconds to shut off the machine. The computer will not restart at all, either with the case switch or the switch on the MB. I know I have power, since the Standby power LED is flashing amber, the DRAM power LED is flashing Amber, and the LAN 2 LED is flashing green.

Question: Is the MB bad, the Processor bad, or something else? I'm going to disconnect all the drives to see if that helps, but I doubt it- it seems that someting died in the middle of the windows install.

All suggestions welcome!

TIA!!!!!

Assuming you are trying to install windows on to the raptor, I find that it's best to disconnect all other hard drives when installing to a SATA drive, so I would try that before getting to worried.
