DFI NF4 Ultra-D + 3000+ Venice, nothing much happening...

Hi,

I just got my CPU and mobo a couple days ago and i let it burn it for 24 hrs before i strated overclocking.

First i started off trying to know my max HTT with this config:

Multi = 3x
Ram = 1/2
vcore = 1.35

I was able to raise the HTT up to 308 until i got a warning on prime95, but windows was still workable at 318HTT.

Now im trying to find the Max OC that i could achieve
Multi = 9x
Ram = 5/6
vcore = 1.4

I cant go past 208HTT

Is this my CPU's limit? Or am i doing something wrong?

Could you guys give me your config info and max OC for a AMD64?
thanks

isolate too one variable at a time.

Find the max HTT, find the max cpu clock, find the max clock for ram (with optimal timings)....

after that, work your way to achieve the maximum clock of each

First off, it's not the board holding you back.
what is your LDT set to?
How about a little more info on your specs? Like what kind of ram?
what PSU? 24 pin? and did you connect it to all 4 power connectors on the motherboard?

Here is a little info to get you started
ldt multi to 3x
set start cpu vid and cpu vid control to 1.45v
vid special controll 110%
ldt volt control = 1.4v
chipset volt = 1.8v
dram control = 2.9v
mac media interface = pinstrap
then on you mem timings try

200 or 166 if you have vaue ram
enable
2.5
4
8
4
7
14
5
3
2
5
3120
5
dis-able
increase skew
0
level 6
level 4
07.0
05.0
256

this should get things going pretty good,...then after you get your max OC you can work on speeding up the mem

ahh thanks for the info 11427 i'll try it out when i get back from school.

yep definitely forgot some more info

psu: 480w antec neopower 24pin
ram: corsiar 3700 xms twinx (im switching soon to something better)

also from the first reply

htt multi used was 3x on both. i thnk i read somewhere that having the total of (htt x htt multi) cant go past 1000mhz. so basically on my first run trying to find max htt was (308x3)

thanks for the info i'll try to tinker around with it some more when i get home.

Are you running 1T memory timing (CPC enabled)? Original BIOS? I had major issues with 1T (could only run at ram 1/2 divider) with my board until I upgraded to the latest BIOS. Now running ram at 2-3-2-5-1T @ 207 MHz.

Hi,

not sure the memory timing im using or what corsiar uses for this ram.

its a pc3700 xms twinx (2x512) Will buy ocz/muskin or corsiar xl in a few days.

bios date is 3/10/05 came with the motherboard.

i can push it to 2.4 but the ram is 1:2, thats a bit weak. when i try 5:6 it doesnt go over 1.9ghz. im not sure whats holding me back.

Download the 7/4/05 BIOS!

I was about to throw this system into the SF Bay until I installed the 7/4 BIOS

:beer:

sounds good man. lemme update my bios.

thing i hate about this computer also is that it freezes when i dont use it for a long time, like when i grab something to eat out i come bak the computer is frozen. always need to reboot it.

the 7 between 4 and 14 is way too tight, it should be 12, will help the ram run

Im running nearly identical setup down to the PSU.
My RAM is only Corsair XMS 3200 though

I'm on 2.8ghz stock cooling + AS5. 🙂

HTT at 311 (x9)
RAM 2/3 divider I set all my timings to "auto" and they come out at 2-3-2-6 1t
CPU V +110%
Ram 2.8Volts

Follow the A64 OCing thread stickied in this forum TO THE LETTER.
oh and what kinda cooling do you have? and what kinda grease?

Yeah mine's current set to auto as well, but i'll be playing around with it soon.

Ram is doing 2.5-3-3-7, i might need to loosen that up to get more out of it.

Right now i got my cpu to 2.5 http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=27533 maybe with a bios update and new better ram (g.skill 3200) it could improve more.

Cooling right now is on air, xp-90 + 92mm panaflo. the grease is Artic Silver Ceramique. Incredible...on my old AXP 2500+ mobile 2.5 was like 50C and 62C on load, and current setup now is just doing 34-37C

hmm not sure about that CPU V +110% though, i didnt see it in the bios that i have. i will have to check that out.
thanks

what is your limiting factor though per the OCing thread stickied? Can you CPU do more than 2.5? Thats about average for a 3000+... hell its better than some actually get.

Don't waste $ on RAM unless you're SURE its limiting you.

Could very well be,.... I have never used Corsair ram. I am also no memory expert,... these timmings were suggested to me and got my OC up to 2.550 from a 2.358 (an LBBID no less)

hmmm im really not sure if this is my cpu's limit but i tried to test it before (1:2 ram, 3x htt, 9x multi, 1.4v) and only went 2.4

right now i think the ram is running 130mhz (i forgot the ratio), everytime i change something in the ram it affects my CPU, its not consistent and even though it is rated to go until 216mhz it cant even go past 180mhz on a lower ratio. (i hope im making sense)

so i was thinking my ram is probably acting gay or that i need to put move voltage on it. its defult is 2.6, running at 2.7 im not sure if i'll fry it on 2.8.

I doubt its your ram,...try leaving all your mem settings in auto. Set your LDT voltage to 1.40 and your Chipset voltage to 1.7v and see if that gets things moving.
