Do you guys think the OCZ Dual Channel GoldVX is better than the regular Dual Channel Gold series? The VX does 2-2-2-8 at 3.2 V while the regular gold does 2-2-2-5 at 2.8V...
any help? judging from these number i would figure regular would be better..
I will be using the memory for overclocking, thanks for your help.

I am using OCZ 2x512MB; Model #: OCZ400512WV3. I bought these chips because they are based on the legendary Winbond BH5 chips. Also, they are cheap. The memory needs two things:

1. Voltage. Lots of Voltage.
2. A strong DRAM Drive Strength set to 6 or 8 in the BIOS

According to the DFI NF4 BIOS Memory Guide, TCCD memory modules need to have the DRAM Drive Strength set to 3 or 5 or 7, which are weak settings. OCZ VX or OCZ BH modules like a strong DRAM Drive Strength of either 6 or 8.

Now, you are looking at the VX series, not the BH5 like I am. Still, it seems that the above may apply to either choice of yours. In your case, I would buy the cheaper of the two.

I'm using ocz gold vx, and right now the mem is running at 504mhz 2-2-2-7 1t settings on 3.3v. At first I was kinda hesitant to run the board with the high voltage jumper enabled, but I've been using it for a week so far without problems. I'm sure the mem could do even higher if you loosen the timings, but I'd rather not, I'm already getting 36ns latency in everest, and I like to keep it that way.

I gotta question, though - is it better to use loose timings and run at a 1:1 ratio (if my mem can even reach 560mhz...) or is it better to run with tight timings and using a divider? From what I know, the gold vx doesnt need high clock rates for optimal performance , ddr500 is plenty fast for it, but does using a divider hurt performance on a a64 system?

You dont understand, those are two copletely different modules. The VX can achive 2-2-2-7 at 250 MHz (ddr500), while the Gold would only be able to to do about 2.5-3-3-7 at 250 MHz, because its rated 2-2-2-5 at ddr400, not ddr 500. If you are going to overclock and dont want to use a divider, yet want to keep the timings then go with the VX. If you arent overclocking, overclocking but using a divider, or plan to loosen the timings without a divider, then go with the gold.

i have run both...i like the "real" BH-5 gold vs. the UTT modules (VX)...otherwise TCCD/5 is very good too...
