LANPARTY UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert what is the best CPU for this MB?

I see that there is now the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6400+. Will this work? Or is there a better CPU for this MB?

I have been out of rotation for over 2 years, and am trying to get back up to speed.

Thanks!

The 6400+ is socket AM2. It's not compatible with that board.

If by best you mean fastest, then the Athlon FX-60 or Opteron 185, at 2.6 GHz, are the highest clocked dual core CPUs that will work with that mobo. The FX has an unlocked multiplier which might make it more desirable.

What he said and I don't even think you can buy s939 processors anymore other than places like ebay/craigslist or fs/t forums and even If you did find one they'd be super expensive. If you really need/want an upgrade you would need to switch out the motherboard, processor, and memory.

Okay then, what MB, CPU and memory is comparable to what I had set up in todays market? I will also be looking at a video card as well.

Thanks.

If you have ddr, you can still find a few socket 939 cpus. But if you have to buy memory, then go with am2 or Intel core2 duo. The lanparty may sell well on ebay. I use Fry's combo deals, though the ecs boards aren't the best, they work and are often free. If you don't live near Fry's, newegg will knock off a few dollars on their combo specials or open box motherboards (which don't come with accessories). The e4500 is good for $100 budget; the e8400 for $200; For amd, the 5000 black edition or regular 5200 (both under $100) combined with a 780g chipset motherboard.

Thanks!

I started this thread based on being told above to get a new MB, CPU and RAM. It has all the specs of my current RIG.

Based on the specs I should just get the Opteron and upgrade my VIDEO card and be good for another 2 years or more?

Let me know.

Thanks!

EDIT: For ease of not clicking link above here is the current RIG set up.

I would just overclock your 3800 and look for a deal on the 8800gt. They've been selling for around $125 on sites such as fatwallet or slickdeals.

what do u do with the pc? u can get the 3800 reasonably to 2.5ghz... an 8800gt will be more vid than that can support with newer games... 2.5 and oc'd 8800gt gets around 10k 3d06, but can't do wic @ 1680 on high settings...

buying 939 pieces is sooo expensive now that u could replace mobo, chip, and mem with better performing intel for the same or less...

but as an incremental step a $139 (see hot deals forum) 8800gt will take u a long way...

I replied to your other thread, if you don't know how to overclock I would probably suggest not doing it until you spend sometime reading up.
