DFI Lanparty UT nf3 ram problems

I've got a DFI lanparty UT nf3 and Sempron 2800 @ 300x8.@1.425v. with the divider at 133 my memory is running at 200mhz..

the problem is i can't get 2x512mb sticks to work together. when i use 1 256mb and 1 512 stick together the system runs find and i pass memtest. (the sticks are in banks 1 and 2) when i try bank 1 and 3 i get beeping and no boot. (even after resetting the bios and flashing to the latest bios).
when i try the 2x512 (samsung matched sticks) the system fails memtest in windows and i get lock ups and bsods. (banks 1 and 2) banks 1 and 3 together give me beeps and no boot.
i've tried upping the voltage on the ram to no avail.. i shouldn't have to because they are pc3200 so they are rated for 200mhz anyway..

can someone offer me some help as to what i can do to get my system to work with a gig of ram.

thanks

amd's onboard memory controller has problems when u have too many sticks of ram. My epox says it needs 1 double sided and 1 singled sided stick of ram in order for me to use 2 slots. also says using 2 double sided sticks results in performance drops

I had no problems with 2x512 on my 8kda3j... just couldn't run 1t. I was running 260+ 5-2-2-2 with 2x512 BH5 1:1

Could be a real bad cpu maybe?

could be.. i just tested and i can run them and pass memtest for an hour using 2x516 at stock fsb and voltage 8x200 = 1.6ghz. with memory at 1:1. but when i try 300x8 with memeory at 133 (200mhz) it only works with 1x512 and 1x256.

ok.. i've been fiddling around.. and i'm able to get the 2x512 to run at 100 (150mhz) stable when i have the fsb at 300x8. If i go above this i get errors and bsods.. is this a problem with the mobo or the chip?

Do you know its not a problem with the RAM? Did you try running memtest for 24 hours with each stick by itself (1x512)? If its not the RAM then its either a board or cpu problem.

actually it has nothing to do with your memory or cpu(well partly). I just remembered while eating dinner that if you try using more than 2 doubled sided memory sticks, the memory must downclock to ddr333(166) sppeds. This is why yours( and mines now) will boot at 150mhz and not 200mhz.

The whereabouts of that info is lost in my brain as it was a while ago, (sorry). I am positive i remember reading it somewhere tho.

currently running 2X512 PQI sticks with 2-2-2-5 timings at 150mhz. its completely stable with mem and prime95 tests. voltages are auto and my nT timing is at auto also. I try doing 180-200mhz and it goes nuts. for quick comparison, my prime95 benchmarking time increased about ~2-3ms for the 1792k and 2048k ffts, so i don't mind, as least i have my 1 gig of ram.

Also edit for my first post, my manual actually says that it is REQUIRED that u have a double sided and single memory stick for a 2 stick config in order to obtain ddr400 speeds. Using 2 double sided sticks will not allow you to run at ddr400 speeds. In order to use 3 sticks @ ddr400 speeds, all of them must be single sided : T

This is whack, can;t even find anywhere that sells ddr400 single sided memory:disgust:

Can you explain then why I am able to run 2 x double sided 512 megs sticks at 250mhz 1T ?

Kind of kills that theory doesnt it?

umm... luck? 1T or 2T didn't make a difference, I could NOT run 2*512 at stock settings on my 8KDA3J. The RAM worked fine in an NF2 board that I tested it in, and either one worked fine by itself, but they would not work together in the A64.

prbly did get lucky (grrr) lol . I tried my ram in my friends new msi p4 neo sumthing in dual channel and overclocked to about 225 mhz and it ran memtest fine. can't be cpu or mobo, prime95 stable when i had only 1 stick. The instant i booted with my 2nd stick in it, it failed prime 95 after 5 mins.

Im Just going to run at 150mhz, i don't notice a difference in a bf1942 or generals so im satisfied. with 512 everything lagged horribly and with my 1 GB now, everythings the way it should be and i can still have stuff in the background open.

Avalon also reported being able to run 2x512 in his Lanparty UT NF3 with double-sided sticks at 1T and 200 mhz(and higher). My guess it has to do with some combination of the motherboard and RAM used.

You can get 1T guarenteed using two single-sided sticks or a single 1 gig DIMM. Anything else, and it's just a matter of luck. Or, you could try to use the RAM that Avalon is using. If you feel like reading through it, check his thread here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=28&threadid=1528904&enterthread=y

same CPU and motherboard you've got. He mentions at least 2-3 different RAM types I believe.

I always been able to run my 2 x 512 meg double sided sticks at 200mhz or more, even my chaintech I had before allowed me to,nothing to do about luck there.

But if you use 3 sticks then it might default to a lower speed, but not with 2 sticks even double sided.

I just built my brother a rig with that board and 2x512MB double-sided sticks. The manual did say that it could only run 2 or more double sided sticks at DDR333. I was able to run them fine at 187Mhz though with a divider.

Yes the manual says that but if you keep reading it says....

However, the BIOS provides the option of manualy adjusting the speed to DDR400 by selecting "200" in the "DRAM Frequency Set (Mhz)" field (Genie BIOS Setting submenu,DRAM Configuration section) of the bios
