DFI Lanparty Build Issue

I just got a system for my friend and was unable to figure out the problem i was having.

Specs
Athlon 64 3000 Winchester
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 6Y160M0 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150
Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400
SAPPHIRE 100110 Radeon X300SE HyperMemory 256MB 128-bit

And i allready had a "Rosewill Value R103A Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply" around that i had thought would run the system with out a problem because it is a low end video card and would have only the HD and one DVD drive.

Well i had no idea about the 24 pin power cables but after reading somthing about them being backwards compatable i figured it would work but no it seems ok but no video output.
Also this mobo has a little bunch of 4 LEDs that light up to show it's boot level and i stupidly forgot to connect the little 4 pin 12V cable at first and all 4 LEDs lit telling me that it supposedly booted fine. After connecting the 12V cable though it stopps at the third LED and Beeps at me with a slow Single beep pattern.

Any ideas?

Ok, somehow i seriously doubt that a case Rosewill R103A
that cost $26.99 with a 350Watt generic power supply is going to be sufficient for the system you are building.

You can keep the case, but you seriously need to spend some extra dough on a nicer power supply.

And the one that came in that case will serve just fine for a celeron or super low-end system.

Well you are likely right but then i still would like to know if anyone can tell me why it beeps at me when the 12V connecter is connected but not when it isn't and the mobo registers a complete boot with out the connection but not when it is connected.

Also if in fact you are right about it not being powerful enough then what is the cheepest one I can get that will work. I don't plan to ever overclok it or have a powerful video card. You see the problem is i don't have much cash that is spendable (100$ or so at absolute maxamum) because i'm allready loaning most of the money to my friend for this build and am paying for anything over 450$ as a present and the total is allready just over 500$. the cash issue is why i tryed the cheep case i allready had insted of geting a good PSU from the start like i did with my own computer.
(Note - I do have more money than this it just isn't spendable)

The reason i was willing to help him out even though i have so little money is because his current system is a 33MHz 486 laptop with completely dead battery and 6 or 7 inch screen.

If the four LED's are lit, everything is not fine...they're supposed to go out...not stay lit. You want them to go out in a countdown fashion...read the manual.

Get a 24 pin psu, connect all the on board power connectors, including the floppy and hd connectors. Start with just one stick in slot 2. Flash to the latest bios also.

Check out the forums on DFI Street too for additonal help.

Thank you very much anarchyreigns because of you making me see that i had the LED thing backwards i now have the system booted. Actualy all the problem was was I had the RAM is the wrong socket.
I do think this power supply will work but before ANY other component is changed for anyreason i will get a better PSU for it.
It has a 16A 12V rail which i think would be enough for such a low end video card but only barely and i will consider underclocking somewhat untill the better PSU is instaled.

Edit - I underclocked it to a 7x multiplyer and will do the setup tomarrow afternoon
P.S. - Thanks again anarchyreigns it may have been a stupid mistake but you made me relize what i did wrong and it helped wonderfuly.

Thanks for the PSU suguestion I will use that or something like it quite soon.
The computer is only stable if underclocked to about 6x so you were correct the PSU was too weak yet it run anyway.

don't waste your monet on that Tt.

dfi wants a minimum 480w and 24a on the 12v. i used a 450 x-clio but its oss right now. if you search the skyhawk 470 you can find the ratings on it and i think it will work. i know one of the mods, AG, at dfi street uses one but his might be the 570w. its supposed to be very beefy but its hard to find the specs on last i checked. newegg has them but no specs.

the most important thing is the native 24 pin and the 12v rail.

edit---if he can afford it i think the fortron 500w is the cheapest that meets all requirements. dfi.street has a recommended list in one of their stickies.

here ya go

don't waste your monet on that Tt.

So your suggestion of spending 3X more money on a power supply is a better idea??

I could have come up with the same suggestion myself........but his is NOT a gaming rig and he does not have 3+ hard drives like most of you.

18A on the 12V will do fine for HIS rig....we're not talking about yours.

Yes, it's a much better idea...in fact, it is almost essential. You obviously don't understand the particulars of the OP's board. Try recommending that psu on DFI Street and see what happens.

well I CAN'T spend 3x the money as i'm on a very very tight budget right now and will likely need to barrow alot of the cash anyway. So since i can't spend that much what is the best you can suguest as close to 44$ as possable? i understnad if it costs more but as close as possable. i'm going to go ask the same question at DFI street and tell them my specs as well.
I'm mostly looking to you right now anarchyreigns because you have the same kind of motherbord.
Also i prefre to buy at newegg but thats not a requirement.

get the x-clio 450 if it comes back in stock today at newegg like rumored it will. i used it in this rig at stock and it was fine.

and daveybrat, you don't necessarily need the 480w but every nf4 manufacturer wants at least a native 24 pin connector. and 18 amps is just too low for this board. it wasn't a suggestion to spend 3x the amount of money, it was to get a psu that will work.
