DFI Lan Party SLI question

Ok, I just received my A64 3000+, DFI Lan Party combo.

My question is:

I got the Lan Party NF4 Ultra-D board, the one for $129 at monarchcomputer.

I didn't think I was getting the SLI model, but the board I got has 2 PCI-Express slots (the long ones), the SLI bridge and has the SLI/Single VGA jumper.

Can I use SLI on this board???

If so I am just gonna get the 6600GT cause the guy I was gonna buy a X800XL from sold it already. I'm thinkin it'd be better in the long run to get the 6600GT and when that becomes not enough for games I'll just guy another 6600GT for around $100-$120 and run them in SLI.

What do u guys think?

Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry, can't spell, long day.

It's definately not the SLI-DR board as the Silicon Image chip is not present and there are only 4 SATA connectors.

No where on the box or the motherboard itself does it say "SLI", it does however say "DXG, Dual Xpress Graphics" on the box.

Are there any physical diferences between SLI and non SLI lanparty boards? IE. only one PCIEx16 slot, no SLI/single VGA jumper, etc..

Doesn't make much sense to include an SLI bridge on a non-SLI mobo.

Anyone have this happen to them??

Also, if I try and mod the board to SLI using a #2 pencil, is it gonna fry my NF4 chip if it doesn't work, or will it just not detect it as SLI???

In this thread, I made a short summary detailing the differences between DFI motherboards.

I believe your ULTRA-D can be modded to SLI-D. I'm not sure how, and I've never done so myself. I have an SLI-DR.

Yeah, I dont think it is SLI.

Has anyone modded the NF4 chip to run SLI?

a simple process, almost fool proof. your board BECOMES a hardware SLI.

Thanks for clearing that up. So Ultra-D to SLI-D is free. 🙂

#2 pencil should be ok right? And if I dont make a good connection is it gonna fry my motherboard? Or just not detect as SLI?

i'd double check at dfi.street theres a few threads on it. just search ultra-d mod and you're good to go.

# pencil works but there may be better and no i don't think you can fry your board. there are some pics there where people massacred the job but still got sli.

You might don't want to ask it in DFI-Street, it's illegal to ask about this specfic issue over there because it's DFI's official forum. Anandtech has an article about modding to DFI-SLI board sometime ago.

Yes, the Ultra-D CAN be modded to an SLI-DR pretty simply actually. I just don't remember where the article was, maybe at Extremetech... Try google.

i said to go search there. they have numerous threads there. if it was illegal it would be deleted. also, you won't get "official" help on things like that but AG and rgone help unofficially all the time. they're no dummies, dfi knows enthusiasts buy their boards and most will do any and everything to push it to the limit.

heres one, was stickied once even
