DFI kills Lanparty Line

Not too surprising, DFI has really fallen out of favor with enthusiasts. They were huge during the nF2/nF3 days, but they haven't done much to make their products stand out in years.

I bought two DFI X48 mobos, the $269.99 ones at Newegg. Nice boards, two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots, and one PCI-E 1.0 x4 in an x16 slot. Full-speed Crossfire + Physx, anyone?

Anyways, I guess this is going to end like Abit did - no future BIOS updates. Sucks, but it seems unlikely Intel is going to release any new 775 chips anyways.

Good that they eventually fixed the problem that these boards had with ATI X2 cards. Initially, they were incompatible with the X2 4870s, etc. That was a major setback in the enthusiast community, and one reason why these boards weren't better recieved.

I got their P55-itx board.. it's pretty awesome.. but after reading the article, looks like no more support from them 🙁

Their last boards were crap...

I've owned a Lanparty JR 790GX-M3H5, it couldn't start 64bit OS out of the box, it wasn't possible to use surroundview...

My P35 Blood Iron is terrible for overclocking, though I may have just gotten a bad board, since at the time Anandtech used one in their system builder marathon.

NF2 days: Unlocked AMD CPUs, so why buy an expensive board just for extra FSB?

NF3/4 days: FSB actually mattered and the Lanparty delivered that.

Conroe to now: Every other budget Intel board out there did 400+ FSB easily, so why pay more for flashy stuff? On the AMD side, we have unlocked Phenoms; just need a board with ACC to core unlock that's all.

So in essence, the current market made DFI irrelevant.

There's still a lot a company can do to make their boards stand out, though. Gigabyte for example pioneered features like dual BIOS, solid polymer caps, etc. And stuff like that is why they've become pretty popular with enthusiasts.

Meh, I've had more problems with DFI's nForce 3 line than any other chipset. Though I suppose I can blame nVidia for that. I built 4 different systems with virtually the same board - every system but my own had huge stability issues.

i havent heard about dfi since dfi-street died. good site. their ultra-d and sli-dr mobos (same thing really) were awesome during my 939 run.

guess like a few things, they only shone when AMD were on top

Im on my first dfi board with the dk x58 T3eH6 and its been a stellar board for me..usually buy asus, msi ,giga,or biostar...this is my 3rd x58 board and by far hands down it runs the coolest and benches on par with all the other boards ive had...
Im sorry to see them go as this board has been nothing but great to use....

I love my LP DK 790FX-M2RS. Probably my favorite motherboard I've ever owned. Sad to see a good company go like this. This motherboard has every feature I could ever want and the price was great for what it is. I've never even had a single issue with it either, and never done a bios update on it.

Plenty of Mobo companies are still doing quite well putting out high end parts. DFI's problems had less to do with the market and more to do with the drop in quality of their products.

I was working on the DFI LanParty Ultra-D last night. Its was dying a slow death a year ago so I retired it. I took it out to either fix it or toss it and noticed one of the pushpins on the NB cooler was broken. Ordered a replacement and hope to bring this thing back to life.

Kinda worthless since 939 X2s are so damn costly, but a 3500+ will just hafta suffice.

Bummer. I certainly hate to see less competition and less choices. I would choose anything of the big 3 board makers or ECS or Biostar over DFI anyways... but thats because their current product line is so underwhelming compared to the competition. I guess now we know why.

RIP Lan Party.

It was a bit foreseeable. On the lanparty website, the number of boards kept falling off from what they were offering in 08 until they only had lower end boards listed. Now I'm glad I didn't scratch my upgrade itch last december.

Why doesn't Oskar Wu go somewhere else rather than their industrial division, anyways? You'd think any of the top or 2nd tier board makers would snap him up in a heartbeat.

Just got one of their MB's in December, I love it. Do any other companies make MB's with UV on them? Love how my MB looks thru the window under the black light. I really like the color scheme or Black/Orange too.

My Zotac m-atx board is black pcb with orange slots. Very Halloween-esque.
