DFI Expert - other versions???

will the "expert" improvements trickle down to non SLi boards?

I really like the 8-pin power and 4 phase power.... Been very impressed with the heatpipe and 8 phase power of the new Asus, or was it aBIT.

anyway I'm happy with my 7800GT and can't pay $200+ for a M-Board.

anyone have anything of substance, or if not just want to WAG???

yes I'm bored, sorry.

Don't think it would make sense to charge a premium for "expert" enhancements to a motherboard for a market for those who don't dream of one day having SLI. Having an "expert" non-SLI compete against the excellent SLI board that is non-expert just doesn't make sense I dont think.

It could be why they made the expert in the first place. Given that its pretty easy to mod most ultra-D's to SLI.

On the other hand, there would still be the same feature differences. Perhaps now it won't be possible to mod, and lacking the SiL RAID chip only 4 rather than 8 SATA2 ports, etc.

I can see an argument either way and I'm hoping someone has some inside info...

I just recently got the Ultra-D but would be interested in flipping it for an expert version, but the premium for the SLI is just not worth it to me...

Can you still mod the Ultra-Ds? I seem to recall that they started putting some sort of glue on the contacts that need to be bridged.

Good question. They were supposed to, and it usually takes a while for a change like this to work its way into the market (all the old stock takes time to get flushed) but your probably right. By now its probably happened.

My board is only a month or two old its an A3 and is moddable, though I won't bother as I think SLI is retarded. I can't beleive people pay $400 - $500 for even ONE video card, let alone for two. FEAR runs great on my 7800GT and I can't beleive I paid $300 bucks for it! More than ever other Vid card I ever owned put together. I think I paid less than $40 for my first Riva 128 card from Diamond...
