DF- Welcome to #11

FoBoT

hope nobody on the DF team hates corporate farmers

we will be #10 within a week

now i hope m0ti can find some time to work on the DFque/proxy thingy, i need a thing like that asap 😀

i started quite early in the DF project, about 1 year ago
it has been my main DC project since i switched from G@H (i am #98 overall in G@H) due to its demise (meaning it got rolled into F@H3 and all that)

But I looked at your membership when you joined Anandtech ofically and that was in April 30th 2001.
So what stoped you from joining the team earlier?

Oh, and my origional question was along the lineg of being corporate, how many computers roughly contribute?

You got your own profile on that web site fobot.net? and or the company company u work for, just curious.

If I'm bugging you to much don't worry about it. I'm disabled and today is a bad day I'm having to use my narcotic pain pills to fight the pain. The other web sites I might be reading are all having the flashing adds this week and my brain just ain't liking it.

Ok, FoBot.

I don't have a lot of time right now, but tell me your requirements.

Java would probably be easiest for me to get something to you ASAP.

Are most of your comp's windows or linux?

If they are windows, do you want to preserve the running as a service option? If so, do they have the .Net framework installed (it'll make it easier for me to put something out that'll run as a service).

Oh!

And a very, very big THANK YOU!!!! 🙂

Man for this much firepower if I'd known he wanted a Athlon 1400 so bad I'd of bought him one a long time ago.

you want the long version? 😉

i first visited AT to look for cheap used pc parts, ie the For Sale/Trade forum
i never ventured to the other forums for quite some time

i first started doing DC in january of 2000 , i was a regular at www.linuxnewbie.org at the time and somebody mentioned the folding@home project. i started doing that , after a couple weeks i ran into some problems and got pointed to the dslreports DC forum for help from Jamilla (now at Arstechnica, most of the time, she likes to move about)

sometime in the spring of 2000, i switched to G@H , the client was more suited for me, mainly because of the caching feature, i was losing too much work with F@H , not always being able to connect

sometime about the fall of 2000 , the opportunity presented itself to start a G@H team on LNO (linuxnewbie.org) , we got up to ~#20 team in G@H before some stuff happened at LNO and i ended up sort or homeless in terms of DC until ~Dec 2001 when Free-DC.org started, mostly due to the efforts of some disgruntled Arstechnica DC'ers. I moved all my DC to free-dc.org until about 1 month ago when i started moving my DC accounts here to anandtech. my DF account is the last one to move over. (don't ask why, its too complicated and not important)

so that is my DC biography 😀

i have ~11 pc's at home, i usually use those to run at least one PC on all of the DC projects that interest me, currently

Athlon 850 on UD
P3-450 on TSC
XP1600+ on G@H (to keep me in the top 100 overall, i am crunching them with the .99 client for TeAmAndtech)
Athlon 1.4 on SB
Athlon 1Ghz on D2OL
Athlon 1.33 on DF, running linux (temporary box, until i get it configured to ship to my sister for christmas present)
celery 333 on OGR
P2-350 on DF (temp box, i need to sell/part out this box, its too slow!)
parts for a couple of more servers and boxen that i need to finish/sell, not currently crunching

at work, i have as my personal (to use) pc's
P3 1.? Ghz running DF, i might switch this to SB
Celeron 600 -> DF
P3-450 -> DF

lab pc's
about 67 boxen total ranging from Pentium 200's (but i no longer run any DC on the oldest boxen, anything with less than 128MB of ram i don't bother running DF on, just takes too much time for too little return, the -rt switch rules! 😀 ) , up to 1.8 Ghz P4's . these boxen don't have internet access, i have to sneakernet the structures home on my laptop and send them up via my cable modem.

i also have occasional temporary access to more/remote pc's , but that is very infrequent, when/if you see me dump larger than normal, that would indicate usage of those other boxen (the long thankgiving weekend may afford such an opportunity, maybe)

www.fobot.net is my personal website, i mainly use the domain for my personal email, i only have some links to DC projects and some web sites on the web page and i haven't updated it in many months

i won't be in the white elephant race for two reasons

1- not fair
2- i have to sneaknet the bulk of my work, so i have to dump (usually 2-3 times a week) , i would lose 95% of my numbers to the "speeding ticket" thingy

i may try to add some prizes to the pot for everybody though 🙂

Muhahahaha I put that in just for you! 😛

but seriously, you are more than welcome to run the ATWE with us. If you're not comfortable with claiming the prize for 1st place, you could always just defer from that part and enter enter anyway to be included for the consolation prizes (everyone's got the same odds for that second Athy). The goal of ATWE is just to give DF a chance to show itself to people unfamiliar with it and give us a bit of entertainment while we crunch.

Love having you on the team FoBoT! Wish I had the space here at home to run more, but will make due with what I have! Let's go Team! We got a very very nice boost, so let's crank it up! 😀
