Good Crunchin' ;) :D

By the time I got done with the milestone makers, Dyrryath's stats had upped to the next hour of stats so if I missed one for you, it'll come tommorrow.

If I completely missed someone, please let me know!! I do these manually and it's entirely possible for that to happen. If it did, I'm sorry :(.

Overall good day for the TeAm. As I said at the top, if we want a chance at leading this thing, we're going to need some serious recruiting.

i hope not too many TeAm members are having any serious issues, some of the other teams (well except the two above us :( ) seem ready to abandon ship on DF

link

bad from a project perspective, not so bad from a stats perspective

i can't monitor my 20-30 boxen all that closely (and i am out of town for the week) , but i haven't seen any major errors that scare me

oh well

Unfortunately, I am one of the people having difficulties. (not considering abandoning the project though)

It seems that if I happen to re-boot or start DF for any reason when the servers are down.... it craps out and I end up
having to start over (delete the filelist.txt file then start DF as indicated by the error.log message about not being able to read the trajectory and requesting I create a new one.... of course, nothing in the readme file tells how to do that)

The other "problem" I have is sometimes you get a pass that is just unmercifully slow. For instance, I had to delete the filelist.txt files on both of my computers because of the server outage (I booted after backing things up for the week). One client was up to generation 145, while the other was at 32 :disgust:

I've found that if you don't watch what the machine is doing, you will end up with a pass that takes more than an order of magnitude more time to complete.... When I see that, I delete the filelist.txt file and hope for a better pass.

Obviously, this is not good for the project (because I don't make it to 250 before starting over) but if I didn't do this, I would
be accomplishing little more than warming up the room. IMO, it is utterly ridiculous that the client is allowed to spend so much time "stuck". Especially when you consider that a real-time based system of determination is a huge handicap to people with faster machines..... it should be cycle based to keep the playing field level.

So, I am not without complaint and am past the point where I could criticize anyone for loosing patience. (especially when you consider Howard's attitude when I was trying to report very similar problems with the old client and Howard refused to address them because the Beta was not having problems.... WRONG!) and finally the generally condescending, dismissive attitude he displays when we do try to help identify problems... that is really really annoying.

anyway, enough ranting..... Like I said, I'm not considering a bail yet, but we are not without room for improvement from the project managment of DF

some runs are just going to be slow, that is part of the way phase II is supposed to work

i guess phase II is less stats friendly than phase I, in that the amount of points generated will be less uniform and much less linear (points to cpu power) than phase I

i knew that would be a problem, at least they reset the stats, image how many people would be torqued with this point system if everybody kept the phase I stats, nobody would be moving up at all

oh well , i haven't found the "perfect" DC client/project yet, so i think i will be doing mostly DF for a while , next week i will have some time to look at my clients more closely for issues

I'm about ready to move a machine or two off of this project. With the memory leak (using 228mb of ram) and the client stopping for no apparent reason, it's getting a bit annoying.

I'm not talking about getting stuck on a generation, I'm talking about checking my machine and seeing that foldtrajlite is not running.

Thanks for the stats and congrats to all the milestone makers.

Since other people were talking about problems in the client I thought I'd add that my client just started on the first generation when it was working on generation ~138 before that. I was starting and stopping the dfgui a few times and it happened while doing that. I guess I lost out on a bunch of points :(

I'm having some fairly major problems too. Most of my boxes were installed with the service install, which Dfgui would restart in excess of 300 times a day, before eventually quitting. I left work for a weekend and when I came back all 7 of my boxes were idle, and had been for quite some time. I have bailed on the service install completely, and had to switch 2 of the systems to another project since service installs are really all I want running on it. 4 of the 5 that are currently running it made it through the last 24 hours on non service installs, the other had restarted 57 times.

I'd like to stay with the project, but can't afford to spend this much time tinkering with my systems. I'll likely give it a bit more time, but as they crash, move them to other projects at least until the client is somewhat reliable. Idle cycles are the devil's workshop.
