DF Question

Sort of annoying how my production dropped to 0 with the release fo the new protein. When running as a service, does it not update itself?

I've seen a HUGE dropoff in my production as well. My home client (writing this from now) is running the service and it is idle! My other home system is Win98SE and it's running the command line DF client but *NOT* the service and it's processing. The DOS windows for my Win98 machine says:

"New version found; attempting to unpack patch file
Update was successful, restarting client"

I looked at the error.log file on my WinXP client that's running DF as a service and found this:

"========================[ Aug 15, 2002 5:20 PM ]========================

It looks like it's trying to update but got a bad file. I manually stopped/restarted the service and it appears to have downloaded the new protein and is running now. The weird thing is the client is only using 68MB of RAM. It was using like 120MB before. At least it's running though. Maybe try the same with your DF service client(s). Please let us know! 🙂

2 of my 8 Win2000 Pro clients at work that are not working. I can start the service but it stops shortly after. Here's some of the error.log...

Well I've tried to stop/start the DF service several times on the 2 problem clients and I get the same thing every time on both of them. I don't have time to play with them today so I started the SETI service back up on both of them.

I must say that I like being part of the DF TeAm and helping the project but I will not continue it if the client is going to need this constant babysitting. Much more of this and I will be switching my 10 DF clients back to SETI. :| :disgust:

Robor, I had a similar problem (with the same errors).

I fixed it by doing the following:

Go to services, find Distributed Folding and stop it. Run the foldit.bat file, it'll do the update. Quit out of it. In services start up distributed folding again.

Yes, a definite pain. I think we need to post at DF to complain about this. I don't like having lost production when they decide to switch proteins. I can't know when I should exactly do the above procedure, and it shouldn't be expected of me either.

The biggest problem was along with the new protein they updated their DNS server which caused most people to show the server as down. They had a temp fix for this by adding the ip for their new domain to the hosts file. If you are still having problems you may want to try this.

ReaganCRW,

is the problem fixed now, or should we still add in that IP?

If so, could you provide it (or a link to their message)?

Thanx.
