Thats my major right now at DeVry. I have learned quite a bit at DeVry so far about phone systems and such but we haven't gotten to networking, which is what Im interested in.

<< WTF are big adult colleges?? >>

Maybe they have extra wide doors and aisles so even the chubby can fit through? ;)

jaybert:

The IT program at Devry is a 1 yr program and is only open to people who already have a BS degree.

One of the reasons why I chose to go there cuz my brother went there back in late 80's. He spoke highly of them and acutally got a very good R&D job at AMD. I can't really blame Devry on the current economic situation our industry is in, but damm, they should be doing something. About 2 out of 40 in my graduating class has found a job thats somewhat related in the IT field.

MaxDSP & Viper GTS:

I was also a TCom major as well for one trimester. I finally decided to change my major to IT cuz as a TCom major, they wanted me to take speech, economics and get this algebra. I asked them why the heck do I need to take algebra for. They said that since I didn't take it at UCR, I needed to take it. I said I took calculus in college and algebra in HIGH SCHOOL!!! Why the heck do I need to take algebra all over again? They said you have to, its part of the curriculum. Screw that!!! I'm not taking my GE's all over again. Thats why I switched over to IT. It suppose to be for people who already had their BS degree, so it was strictly IT courses.

I still have found memories of my TCom profs. This one guy spent most of his time talking about his stock portfolio and when it came to exams, it was open book, open neighbors, open whatever. He didn't even proctor the exams. He always said, "Here's the exam. When your done just put them here on the podium..I'll be in my office!!!" WTF is that!! I never saw the guy the rest of the class. Practically everybody in class received A's but a few of them were getting D's. Now how the heck can that happen!!!

Another thing, you have to pay $75 to petition to graduate! WHAT??!!! I have to pay money to graduate. WTF for!!! I've never heard of a school where the students have to pay to graduate. I was so pissed of about having to pay even more money, that I started to ask professors, administrators and advisors why we had to pay $75. I got the typical Devry answer.

"Huh, hum, ohhh, I don't know, why don't you ask the other departments." I finally went to the Registar's office and asked them the same question. "Well, everybody has to pay $75, its part of the application process." I said," Ok I understand that, but what am I exactly paying for. I'm not spending another $75 unless you tell me exactly where it is going." She says, "It's only $75, why don't you just save up for it!!" Now, that really pissed me off. "I said what are you insinuating, that I don't have $75. I'm not saying that I don't want to pay. I just want to know what my $75 is going for!!"

She finally says, "Ok, I'm not suppose to tell you this but, basically it puts your name on the graduation program, you get to walk at the Shrine Auditorium( for people who aren't aware of the Shrine auditorium, its the same place where the Grammy awards are presented in LA), and you get a diploma." I said thank you and walked out.

Well, I never paid that $75 cuz, I didn't give a rat's a$$ about my name being in the program, and no way in he!! am I going to show my face at graduation, too damm embarassed and I don't want to get laughed at hanging that piece of cr@ap diploma on my wall.

Again.....DeVry is suck!!!

PS. Opps my bad, I've been spelling DeVry wrong all this time, but then again who cares.

Im sorry you had such a rough time at your campus but most of my teachers here are not at all like that. They actually take the extra step to make sure that the student actually learned something. Some teachers arent that good but you cant let a few rotten apples spoil the bushel (or however it goes, hehe). And most universities will make you take Gen Ed classes again unless you have Advanced Placement credits. I took one AP class in HS, Environmental Science, but I dont knwo how much help that going to be. If you wanted to save money, you could have taken the Gen Ed courses at a community college, saving not only money but also a lot of time and transferring the credits to DeVry.i know many people that have/are doing this.

Hey Max,

I'm glad things are different out there in Illinois. Saving money was a concern, but time weighed heavily on me. If I went to a community college and then go to DeVry that would have taken aleast 2yrs if not 3. I couldn't wait that long. I'm getting way too old :). Anyway, I'm currently studying for CCDA and then CCNA. Hopefully that will open some doors for me!!

Lets hope CCDA and CCNA work out better than DeVry. Good luck. :)
