Windows 8.1/14.4 drivers and will try 14.6 soon but when I put in a gtx 460 my system is stable with no issues whatsoever.

When I put an R7 in I get random blue screens lock ups green screen youtube videos and odd web browser behavior. Had a PSU die recently so threw in a new one tried down clocking everything and swapped some spare ram/SSD's to no avail. I put the R7 in an AMD x6 system, same results.

Was going to get a faster AMD card but is this what to expect from R series cards for now? RMA seems pointless due to how many others have been complaining about blue screens for the past six months and RMA'd cards coming back with the same issues.

Some have suggested going to 13.2's. Anyone here running an R7/R9 card that doesn't exhibit this behavior?

The drivers/cards are working fine for everyone else. It's something with your system(s). Likely the card.

Most likely you haven't removed all the drivers - and no the R series isn't broken - but you can and will get bad batch of cards from anyone.

Did you have the R7 in the system work before the psu died? but if you'd tried it in a couple systems then I'd say rma and get a new card that should sort it....:)

A quick google search would suggest otherwise.

The minute the R7 touched my system it was instant issues. The psu died maybe a month after I put the card in. No power surge or anything it just wouldn't power on one day so it died in its sleep.

Was hoping I wouldn't have to register this card :(

You can Google search anything and get 1000's of hits. Never mind me, you do as you want to. Cheers.

Zero problems here so far with R9 290 14.6 since 6-5-14 with fresh W 8.1 install and MB BIOS update.

Two things - did you clean drivers out from old card as that can have an effect on your system.

Two did you update your bios; if you have an older system sometimes the motherboard won't reconize the card and it will either not work or have issues.....

if you've done both - then you've had a bunk card......

Second googling issues; you'll find them same things for nvidia cards - none of them are perfect; but with some patience we should be able to get you running :)

Card could have been damaged by the PSU or you were having the BSOD before that happened?

After a PSU has died there is a good chance that components have been damaged in hard to determine ways, they are meant to just kill themselves and protect the components but many don't do that properly at all.

Do you happen to run monitoring software in the background? Such as GPU-Z, HWMonitor, Afterburner, etc. I've got BSOD a few times when I opened GPU-Z, especially when the card is under load or hot. Reference 290. I was puzzled at first but it was quickly identified.

I definitely took all other parts into consideration and the only monitoring software I use is core temp but it doesn't work very well with 8.1 so I only run it a few times a month.

I hear you on google. That's why I asked if there was anyone not having the issue so I know I'm not wasting my time. I did a typical driver uninstall but I'll give the bios update and driver sweeper a shot.

14.6 beta was fine until I tried to uninstall and it corrupted my Eyefinity setup. I resorted to using AMD's driver removal tool ("AMD Cleanup Utility") that nukes all the bits that the regular installer misses when uninstalling. That utility has issues with Windows 8.x the last time I checked.

Stick with 14.4!

I can't say about the Beta drivers but the AMD CleanUp Utility has worked flawlessly on my system.

I switched back & forth between 13.12 & 14.4 WHQL 5 - 6 times & used the utility all those times & it has worked properly on my Windows 8.1 Install.

Its literally you. Either you forgot to uninstall Nvidia/old AMD drivers or the GPU was damaged when the PSU broke. I suspect you had cheaper PSU with no surge protection and when it broke it damaged the card.

So there you have it. Do a format on your HDD, reinstall windows, install the newest certified drivers and see if it helps, if not then the card was damaged when the PSU broke!

I sent one R290 for refund. it was full of problems , "black screen",BSOD, freezes.
From what i see comments from online shops and forums, at least the early R290's had high DOA rate.

But without having the DOA rates of both AMD and Nvidia , it's hard to be sure. Maybe nvidia had high DOA in early 780's , i just didnt see them.

I plugged my old fifteen dollar 3000 watt unit into the wall after removing it from its casing switched it on then stuck my fingers in there, unfortunately for you I didn't die.

Exactly what I was worried about. Turns out the green youtube bs was fixed by the driver sweeper and some bios settings were lost when replacing the psu.

You could try the Cat13.12 or 13.9 here. clean the drivers leftovers before installing the newer driver.

Cat 14.4 gave me problems here too.

BIOS switched back to v-core instead of offset, WHQL's are working fine atm.

I'm with Vulgar display, on Cat 14.4 and not a single hiccup. In fact, my games are a little faster with the new WHQLs.

I have 14.4 with QuadFire and no issue, even 14.6 beta gives me decent performance and few to no issue.

If I were you, I would just do a clean install of Windows. I would never install another card (set of cards) without reformatting the main OS SSD.

By the way, if you don't want to reformat, I suggest using DDU (which is updated very frequently) (Display Driver Uninstaller) instead of Driver Sweeper.
