Serious question, why do you even need a straw in restaurant? Some super fancy cocktail? I myself use only a hand full of it a year mostly drive thru on a long road trip, I do eat fast food I just drank it from the cup don't even need a lip. I also have mug with me most of the time.
A small number of people require a straw for medical reasons.
My gf insists on using a straw at most (smaller) restaurants, because she can't trust the person washing the dishes. :tearsofjoy: This isn't logical because if they can't clean the rim of a glass, it's less likely that they cleaned the inside of a glass (particularly the bottom where the straw will pull water from). Also my viewpoint is that if the dishware or utensils at a restaurant are not clean (to the eye), I'm never going back there.

I used a paper straw just once and it was awful. The thing gets soggy quickly and the mouthfeel is yuck. But you can buy well-reviewed metal straws on Amazon. In the grand scheme of things, plastic straws are a small part of the problem. But any single-use plastics should be avoided whenever possible. I personally get annoyed when a server gives me a straw unprompted, because not only will I not use the thing, but it will still head into a landfill. Most times they aren't going to take an unused straw back to give to another customer.

Avoid sitting your sensitive teeth into a bath of freezing cold liquid. I'm one of the silly old gruff looking guys at the bar sipping on my whisky diet through 2 little plastic straws.

If ur gf insist on using straw cuz she don't trust the person washing the glasses but she ok with eating of the dishes?

I totally do not trust metal straws, there is no way you can reasonably clean the inside.

If it's a wide enough bore, a bottle brush should do the trick.

A... what?

*edit
Paper Straw
These are real? Do they even work? Cannot imagine they 1: survive moisture or 2: survive the power of suction.

I'd like to know what straws Costco started using. They aren't plastic, but they survive a lot better than the paper one's I've used before.

Your first clue that I was not a whisky gourmet was the straws? How bout the diet?
I will show respect for single malt though. 1 small ice cube, vice the water. Water brings out the flavor of Scotch.

but never mind the warped mind of a democrat who makes a law to throw people in jail for giving out a straw and exempt fast food where the vast majority of straws are passed out. and you say republicans are dumb as shit? HAHAHAHAH

New sock is a boring as all the old socks. Sad.

Well, some people are germophobes. The food we consume is generally fully cooked, which if done properly, kills germs. Like I said, drinking water from a straw is not entirely logical but in her case, it's reflexive habit.

As another example, my mom is a great cook but she's sloppy at hand washing dishes. It's the same problem at greasy spoon diners. You may trust the food enough to eat it, but you don't trust the person at the bottom of the totem pole who's washing dishes as quickly as possible for not much more than minimum wage. In other words, YMMV.
