Devil May Cry 5

I can't be the only one playing this on PC. Got it as a part of the game bundle that came with Radeon VII. It's really, really picky about GPU stability, but it's not terribly demanding, so hitting 144 fps 1440p is actually pretty easy with all the bells & whistles. Still, it's the only game I've played thus far that can crash my card using my otherwise-stable overclocks/undervolts. I'll have to tinker with it to see what's really stable in this game.

Sadly, it has some bad crashy behavior on the PC version even when not overclocking which requires hackery to fix. Such a pity. I have to force DX11 mode and start the game in BorderlessWindow mode to get it to run, plus some other crap.

I've tried it too and it froze up on Vega 64 but I was kind of having a hard time getting into the game anyway and the default control scheme was terrible. It also didn't support 21:9 at launch, which is annoying. The only other DMC games I've played were DMC4 ages ago and then I tried DmC when it was released but I didn't finish it. For me, it was one of those games where if I got stuck at a point I would probably just not care enough to continue; I believe that's exactly what happened.

I'm all for over-the-top action and ridiculous fiction writing but I'm not sold on this game yet.

I got it through AMD Rewards too, downloaded/installed on Friday, but haven't started it up yet. Will be my first DMC game.

I picked it up out right and so far it runs perfectly at 4k. However, the default controls are a little awkward to me and I need to go back and adjust.

It's also my first DMC game. Looks like Steam has the older ones available in anthologies? The controls are a little wonky. I like them better than the controls to Dark Souls 3 though.

Anyway it's kind of fun for a hack-and-slash, and the writing is good at a pulp fiction level. It's a lot more fun once you
get to play as V.

Looks like the thing that was killing my GPU stability was a RAM overclock. Need to do more testing later.

I spent only 10 minutes with the game and couldn't get used to the controls. I like 4 and finished it along with all DLC. Not sure if I will come back to it. So far thumbs down from me.

Glad I read this before playing, I fired it up last night just to see how it looked, and right out of the gate it crashed before actually making it to the game proper (went through the calibration, created new game, then crash)
So I turned down my GPU clock & RAM speeds, then it ran perfectly, looks like it defaulted to ultra settings, and seemed to run quite smoothly.

Glad you didn't get the dreaded grey screen/white screen which makes the game stop loading at all until you force DX11 plus potentially other things. It's really weird.

Was gonna get it but after reading this I may reconsider. I don't need a game that crashes and makes me muck around with overclocks that are stable on things 10x more demanding.

Well, it is fun. But I would wait for another patch at least.

Yeah perhaps I came off as overly harsh. I love Devil May cry and action games in general but I may wait for some of the bugs to be squished, at least the more game breaking ones mentioned here.

I haven't seen any issues yet while playing. Although, I can say that I'd probably avoid the Live Action cutscene option. It might be interesting for a second playthrough or if you can use that while rewatching cutscenes.

I think the only thing I don't like is that you can't swap Devil Breakers on Nero without destroying all of your current one.

I heard it was really good but haven't played it - been working on backlog first - of course that might take 4 or 5 years.

I almost never use them.

Well, I mostly accidentally use them as the game registers the Devil Breaker usage instead of the pull-in technique. Although, I got the Deluxe Edition, which comes with the Mega Buster arm, which is kind of amusing to use. The only bad thing is that if you ever want to use it, you have to make sure you put it first or destroy all other Devil Breakers before it.

I've considered ponying up for the deluxe upgrade just to get that thing. Megaman was the bomb, and I've been playing 20XX a lot lately. No matter where I go, I can't get away from buster arms!

Live action cutscene option huh? Why would you avoid it specifically? Poor acting? Weird transition back and forth?

It's not live action as in a live action version of the same cut scenes. It's the proto-type scenes that use real people, props, and/or figures on a sound stage that sets up the direction and camera work for the FMV team to use.

In other words, if you want to see all the nifty cut scenes, you end up missing them all.

That sounds like an odd option to have. I’d expect that to be an unlock for a second look.

Yeah, it's rather awkward when you select that option, and realize that you can't change it back until you exit to the main menu. So, you end up having to watch a few of those cutscenes. 😛
