Device type of DVD drive

Hi,

The "device type" of my DVD drive under its properties window is "CDROM". I checked several computers and they all show "DVD/CD-ROM" as "device type" for a DVD drive.

Although some softwares recognize the DVD drive as a DVD drive, others don't and thus I can't brun DVD.

How can I change the device type from "CDROM" to "DVD/CD-ROM"?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Under My Computer, both my DVD-R drive and my DVD-ROM drive have a "type" of CD-ROM. That's just the wacky Windows OS.

Do you have two drives hooked up? I had that problem once where I can't burn. Turns out that my DVD rom is in conflict with my DVD-writer. Very weird. I had never found a way to fix it. I just replace the dvd-rom with a cd-writer and it works great.

Hi MustISO,

Under my computer, I've that too, but if you right-click on the DVD drive and go to properties, you should have "DVD/CD-rom" under the "hardware" tab. In my case, I've "CD-ROM"...

No matter how many software settings you tweak, you're not going to make a DVD-ROM into a DVD±R. 😛
