I don't know how some of y'all will feel about this, but I'm looking for a small device that will trigger a speeding car's radar detector.

I guess I'm tired of being run off the road by cars driving 95mph in a 70 or 55 zone, and it would make me happy to hit a button and watch them slam on their brakes in a panic.

I thought I saw a kit for this once, or maybe a completed device. However my searching through google has me coming up empty.

Any ideas on this?
Thanks!

A company named Edge used to advertise those things in Popular Science several years ago.

Is it that they are really going that fast, or is it because you have a crap car that can't go over 60mph? :D

If you can't beat em, join em. Seriously, what do you think the other people around you are doing? Also, they don't all have radar detectors...

I disagree with all these people Auction. I share your setiment, and would like to have one of these too. That would be great when some ass is doing 90 on the interstate darting in and out of traffic slams on his brakes when his radar goes off like mad from the close proximity.

My uncle has one. Bought it quite a few years ago at a computer show. I damn near caused an accident with it on the way home with it. Doesn't seem to work with any of the radar detectors of today though. Search for Rainbow Kits.

Couldn't you just mount a radar gun made for clocking baseballs or something onto your dash? Or is the device being mentioned different?

To my knowledge, it is illegal for a non-law enforcement officer to have a radar unit in their car.

Get a hold of one of the radar sensors for opening doors at grocery stores, Walmart, etc. They are k band I believe and should do the trick. Should be good for a 100 or so feet. Every radar detector I have ever had has been set off by one of these at one point or another.

Just a thought

If a car is going 95 on anything but a highway, call the cops. If you are on a highway and they are going 95, then your problem is that:

a)you need to get the hell out of the left lane
b)you need to keep up with traffic.

There is a forum member who has one setup. MacBaine I think it was, bought the crown vic and did a cop conversion.

Be careful with that sort of thing. If someone figures out your doing that or if a cop catches you doing it you could be in quite a bit of trouble.

So far lots of interesting comments but no MEAT :p (except the $150 gun, I'm talking $25 here).

Does anyone actually know where to buy or how to easily make one of these, or a link to someone who does?

Thanks!!

Edit:
Here is a place that sells a radar gun kit for under $50. Think this would trip most of today's smarter radar detectors?

I heard there was a way to turn a detector into an emitter a while ago.. Do a search for radar jammers, I think that might turn up how to do it.

Good luck. I know that highway patrol and cops where I live (northern California) only use Ka band and laser. I've disabled the K and X long ago without a problem and still pick up cops before they get me.

Comes in really handy when they have a speed trap and there are so many officers around with their radars going off that you'll pick up the radar from several streets away and it's a sure sign it's them if you turn the corner and it's still there or getting stronger.

A powerful infared LED should set off the laser detector and most people react to laser signals. I know at close range (15ft) my TV remote sets off my V1. I don't know you would get the response you are looking for. I see a lot of people speeding without protection. People with good detectors will only momentarily slow down until they have scanned the immediate area for cops. People with crap detectors will probably ignore the signal because they are used to getting false readings.

My sentiments exactly.

BTW radio shack used to have a kit to build a radar detector. In most states it is not illegal. In fact if you go into some neighborhoods you might find some old man sitting in his yar zapping you as you go by. Again in some states that is legal and they can report your license plate to the local PD and you usually get a warning. I used to see this all the time in the old fart state of Florida.

Well, if the speed limit is 70, I would hope that it's a major highway/Interstate.

And, basically, I agree with you.
