device to play video over network?

I'm looking for a device that will allow me to play video files from my computer on my television.

There are devices that allows audio files to be grabbed over the network, such as the Turtle Beach Audiotron. I want the same thing but for video!

For those of you with tv cards, how do you output the video to a TV? Is there a wireless device that broadcasts to the tv? Running a cable from my pc to the tv isnt practical as they are in different rooms..

to output to the tv you use a cable, be it video or s-video depending on what the card supports. i don't know about video over a network, i'm sure something exists, i tried setting up a wifi computer to do that but watching over a 11mbps connection is not good, you have to copy the file over and watch it locally, cuz the connection is too slow.

I believe I posted something on this a while back, say over the last month or so. I saw an article on some add-ons for the Sony PS2 that allow it to play video files on your TV from your home PC (over your home network). Apparently, it uses some software to optimize the transfer of the video stream. I think the original software was made by BroadQ, and was called the QCast. I think there is a newer version of it now, with perhaps a different name. Here's an article on it: QCast Review

There's old wireless composite stuff out there, it would work fine probably, but quality wouldn't be too good., although if you're talking about watching highly compressed divx downloads then I guess it wouldn't matter. Problem with these wireless beamers is that you don't have interactive control of your PC. That can be solved by using VNC, coupled with a wireless pda connected as a client.

Have you any names of these old beamers? Still not quite what I'd like to do..

Have a look at http://www.govideo.com

This device is almost exactly the way to do this, but teh DVD is unneeded.

get an AV wireless sender

Make sure you can select the frequency not to interfere with your wi-fi, phone, etc. etc.
